Resolution: Before starting, be sure Starship Titanic is not installed already. First, you will want to insert the disc while holding down the Shift key on your keyboard. This will prevent the disc's AutoPlay feature from activating. Next, follow the directions below for your version of Windows.
Windows XP:
1. Open "My Computer", right-click your CD-ROM drive and choose "Explore" or "Open". Be sure to not install or AutoPlay the disc here.
2. You will see the icon for setup. Right-click it and choose Properties.
3. The Properties page will have a Compatibility tab. Select "Windows 95" and press OK.
Windows 2000 (Method 1):
Ensure you are running Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 or later. Service packs may be obtained from Microsoft Windows Update. http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ Please download and run http://support.selectsoftusa.com/download/apcompat.exe and perform the following steps:
1. Browse to or enter the path to your Starship Titanic installer on the CD-ROM. (Default is: "C:\Program Files\The Digital Village\Starship Titanic\ST.exe")
2. Select "Windows 95".
3. Check "Make the above check box settings permanent".
Please also note that this method is clumsier and more error-prone than the one below. It does, however, yield better results on some systems.
Windows 2000 (Method 2):
You may be able to run the following command: "regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll" to enable the compatibility tab. You may then follow the same instructions as for Windows XP above. Please note that with this method, some systems will require you to also select "Disable Heap Manager on Windows 2000".
You should now be able to install and play the game without any problems. Please be sure to install all of the components, including the MPEG Layer 3 component. You will need this even if you can already play MP3 files, as this game uses a higher quality file format than Windows comes with support for. We recommend doing a "Full Install" of Starship Titanic as there may be movie issues otherwise. (It's generally a good idea to do this anyway, however. There are a couple of bugs related to disc 3 which we have heard of, but have never encountered. Also, it's a pain to have to switch back and forth between the CDs sometimes.)
If you are still having issues, please log a support issue on our web support.
