Basic
Troubleshooting |
|
Customer is having technical
difficulties with this software title. In an attempt to solve the
customer's problem, perform these basic diagnostics. |
Basic Troubleshooting
- Make sure the customer's machine meets or
exceeds the program's minimum system requirements.
- Ensure that the Color Depth and Resolution are
configured to match the display settings stated in the Minimum
System Requirements. Do NOT set the resolution to 640x480 on a
Windows 98 machine. 800x600 is acceptable for most of our
programs, though it may not produce a full screen for the program.
- Close TSRs. Use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open Task
Manager and close all applications except Explorer and Systray in
ALL Windows platforms except Windows 98 or Windows 98SE, and
Macintosh OS. In Windows 98 or Windows 98SE use MSCONFIG in the
Run line and deselect all the items in the startup folder (Do NOT
use MSCONFIG on a Compaq computer). In Mac OS configure the system
to use minimum extensions.
- After closing TSRs, uninstall and reinstall,
this ensures a CLEAN INSTALL of the software.
- Check the model, manufacturer, and properties
of the CD-ROM drive. Configure the CD-ROM drive to Sync Data
Transfer and set the Read Ahead Optimization to No Read-ahead.
Also, ensure that the File System line under the Performance tab
in System Properties says 32bit, and does not say Some drives are
using MS-DOS compatibility mode.

ISSET_SE Caused a GPF... |
|
During the installation of
All*Star Typing(tm) (Basketball) the error message "ISSET_SE caused
a GPF in module [various]" may appear. This issue is most often due
to an anti-virus program running in the background, in addition,
using Point32 or MSWheel mouse programs may cause the error. The
issue may also due to a conflict between the mouse driver and the
actual mouse device being used. Closing all TSRs, or installing the
correct mouse driver should resolve the issue. |
Closing Background Applications
- Make sure there are no programs running in the
background. Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys at the same time.
While these keys are being pressed, tap the Delete key once.
- This will open a "Close Program" window,
listing all the programs that are currently running. It is
necessary to close all programs except Explorer and Systray. To do
this, click on a name in the list, then click on the "End Task"
button. The display will return to the desktop. Press
Ctrl-Alt-Delete to return to the Close Program window.
- Continue closing all background programs until
just Explorer and Systray are shown in the Close Program window,
then press the Cancel button.
Note: Some virus-scan programs, such as Norton
Anti-Virus, must be disabled before the above procedure will work.
Consult your Anti-Virus' program documentation for instructions on
how to temporarily disable it.
Verify the Correct Mouse Driver
- In the device manager, compare the listed mouse
driver with the actual mouse attached to the computer.
- If the listed mouse driver is incorrect, remove
and re-install your mouse drivers.
