Issue Basic Troubleshooting
Description The following are Basic Troubleshooting techniques. These steps can be used on any program to attempt to alleviate any issue.
Solution Basic Troubleshooting
  1. Make sure the customer's machine meets or exceeds the program's minimum system requirements.
  2. Ensure that the Color Depth and Resolution are configured to match the display settings stated in the Minimum System Requirements. Do NOT set the resolution to 640x480 on a Windows 98 machine. 800x600 is acceptable for most of our programs, though it may not produce a full screen for the program.
  3. Close TSRs. Use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open Task Manager and close all applications except Explorer and Systray in ALL Windows platforms except Windows 98 or Windows 98SE, and Macintosh OS. In Windows 98 or Windows 98SE use MSCONFIG in the Run line and deselect all the items in the startup folder (Do NOT use MSCONFIG on a Compaq computer). In Mac OS configure the system to use minimum extensions.
  4. After closing TSRs, uninstall and reinstall, this ensures a CLEAN INSTALL of the software.
  5. Check the model, manufacturer, and properties of the CD-ROM drive. Configure the CD-ROM drive to Sync Data Transfer and set the Read Ahead Optimization to No Read-ahead. Also, ensure that the File System line under the Performance tab in System Properties says 32bit, and does not say Some drives are using MS-DOS compatibility mode.
