Update the sound

Check the Multimedia Properties on your system
To check multimedia properties
in Windows 95:
- Click Start.
- Click Settings.
- Click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Multimedia icon.
- Click the Audio tab.
- Make sure that the Preferred Device
listed under Playback reflects your actual soundcard. Make
sure it is not set to Game Compatible Device. If you have
multiple options, you may want to try the game with each one.
- Put a check next to Use only preferred
devices
- Click OK.
Modify the basketball.inf file to disable Miles
Digital
- Navigate to the folder in which you installed
the game. (By default this is C:\HEGAMES\Basketball).
- Double-click the file that says
Basketball.inf
- Look for the section labeled [DefaultINIValues].
Under that find the line that reads MILESDIGITAL=(some
number). Click the mouse cursor at the end of that line and hit
the [Backspace] button until that number is complately erased.
- Type the number 2 so the line reads
MILESDIGITAL=2.
- Click the File menu, then Exit.
When asked if you want to save your changes, click Yes.
Download and install the patch
The patch fixes this issue.

Disable 3rd party applications running in the
background
To temporarily close any extra
applications and services running in the background in Windows 95:
- Hold down the Ctrl+Alt+Delete
keys simultaneously on your keyboard.
- This will bring up the Close Program
window.
This window will show all of the programs running currently on
your system. We want to temporarily close all of these
applications except for Explorer and Systray. The
programs we close will restart when we reboot the computer. No
permanent changes are being made. To close these other programs:
- Click once to highlight the first program
listed.
- Hit the End Task button
Now repeat steps 1-4 to remove all other
applications. Be careful not to hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete
twice or this will cause your computer to reboot. Your computer will
also reboot if you close Explorer or Systray or hit
the Shut Down button.
This should temporarily close any conflicting background
applications. These applications will start up again when you
reboot. |

When entering a name for a custom player, simply type
in "Barry Dejay" and he'll show up to play. Or, type in "Lemon Boy"
and Thor Herring shows up. Both Thor and Barry are maxed out in all
their stats.
NOTE: It's not necessary to win the championship to unlock these
guys - that's just when the hint shows up in the credits. |

This seems to be random. Generally running up to the hoop and
shooting gives a chance to dunk the ball. If you perform 3 defensive
stops, you might get a dunk powerup that makes all shots slam dunks

usually have the game name and icon. Right-click this icon, then
click Open.
- Look for a folder named DirectX, DX8
or something similar. Double-click this folder.
- Double-click DXSETUP.EXE. It may only
show up as DXSETUP, but it will have an icon of a computer
with a blue screen.
- Click Reinstall DirectX.
Note: Keep in mind that the latest version of
DirectX that can be installed on Windows 95 is DirectX 8.0a and
Windows NT will only support up to DirectX 3.

http://www.microsoft.com/directx
- Look for a download link.

color mode. If your computer's display is not set to 16-bit color,
then the game will attempt to switch to this mode at launch. If the
game cannot make this change automatically, this error can result.

Make more hard drive space available
To free up hard drive space in Windows 95
remove any programs that you don't use. To do this:
- Click Start, Settings then

- In the control panel, click Add/Remove
Programs. This will show you a list of programs that can be
uninstalled and how much space they are using.
- Click any programs that can be removed, the
click the Add/Remove button and follow the onscreen
prompts. If you are unsure if a program is needed or not,
contact the software manufacturer.

Delete the hegames.ini file
The initialization file is probably corrupted. To clear the contents
of hegames.ini:
- Click Start
- Click Run
- In the box type hegames.ini and click
OK

- Hit the Backspace key on your keyboard.
This will delete the contents.
- Click File then Save.
