Running the Program from the Hard Drive |
| |
After
installing Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™, you want to run the program
from the hard drive instead of the Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ CD.
When it creates maps, Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ reads data from
the BBUND3DWA22 folder on the CD. Copying the BBUND3DWA22 folder
from the CD to the root directory on the hard drive will allow
Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ to run from the hard drive without the
CD. View the remainder of this technical note for more information
and the procedure. Follow the procedure below
to copy the BBUND3DWA22 folder from the Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™
CD to the root directory of the hard drive.
NOTE: Before beginning, Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ must be
installed. The contents of the BBUND3DWA22 folder require 528 MB of
hard drive space. Verify that the hard drive Broderbund® 3D World
Atlas™ is installed to has enough free space for the BBUND3DWA22
folder. Also, additional free hard drive space needed by the
operating system must be available after the BBUND3DWA22
folder is copied to the hard drive.
- Place the Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ CD into the CD drive.
- Close all programs and windows and return to the desktop.
- Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop. The My
Computer window will open.
For Windows® XP, click Start and click My Computer. The My
Computer window will open.
- Right-click the icon that represents the drive containing
the Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ CD.
- Using the left mouse button, click Open from the menu that
appears. The Contents of the CD will be displayed.
- Click once on the BBUND3DWA22 folder to select it.
- Click Edit from the menu bar and click Copy.
- Click the Back button located at the top of the open window
to return to My Computer.
- Double-click the icon that represents the drive Broderbund®
3D World Atlas™ was installed to. (Typically, this is the C:
drive.) The contents of the selected drive will be displayed.
- Click Edit from the menu bar and click Paste. The
BBUND3DWA22 folder and all of its contents will be copied from
the CD to the hard drive. Depending on the system, the process
may take a few minutes.
- When the file copy is complete, remove the Broderbund® 3D
World Atlas™ CD from the CD drive and close all open windows.
- Launch and use the Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ program.

Regional Map Image Does Not Fill the Screen
|
| |
When
viewing the Regional map, the image does not fill the entire screen.
This typically occurs when the screen resolution is not set to one
of these six resolutions: 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 1084, 1152 x 864, 1024
x 768, 800 x 600, or 640 x 480. Changing the screen resolution to
one of these six resolutions used by Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™
will display the Regional map at full screen. The remainder of this
technical note describes how to continue.
Follow the procedure below to change the screen resolution.
- Close all program and return to the desktop.
- Right-click a blank area of the desktop.
- Use the left mouse button to click Properties from the menu
that appears. The Display Properties will open.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Screen Resolution (or Screen Area) section, move the
needle to the left (less) or right (more) until one of the
following resolution settings appears:
 | 640 by 480 pixels
|
 | 800 by 600 pixels
|
 | 1024 by 768 pixels
|
 | 1152 by 864 pixels
|
 | 1280 by 1084 pixels
|
 | 1600 by 1200 pixels |
- Click Apply and click OK.
NOTE: If prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
When the computer restarts, continue with Step 7.
- Launch Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ and open the Regional

City
or Town Name Does Not Appear |
| |
After a
specific town is located using the search tool and is displayed and
identified by name, the name of the town does not appear when you
navigate to the same location on the same map at another time. The
various names shown on a Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ map are
displayed according to the priority that was assigned to each name.
View the remainder of this technical note for more information.
The various names shown on a Broderbund® 3D World
Atlas™ map are displayed according to the priority assigned to the
name. For example: Country names have a higher priority than city
names and city names have a higher priority than town names.
Among the towns, the order in which they were stored in the
Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ database of names added another level of
prioritization. In some parts of the world, the density of towns is
so great that there is not enough room to display all names at the
same time on the same map. In such cases, only a portion of the town
names will be displayed.
Increasing the screen resolution to 1280 x 1024 or 1600 x 1200 can
allow more city and town names to display. Follow the procedure
below to increase the screen resolution.
- Close all programs and return to the desktop.
- Right-click a blank area of the desktop.
- Use the left mouse button to click Properties from the menu
that appears. The Display Properties will open.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Screen Resolution (or Screen Area) section, move the
needle to the right (more) until 1280 by 1084 pixels or 1600 by
1200 pixels setting appears.
- Click Apply and click OK.
NOTE: If prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
When the computer restarts, continue with Step 7.
- Launch Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™.

Exporting Maps to a Paint or Print Program
|
| |
Although Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ does not have the ability to

the Windows® Clipboard. From the Windows® Clipboard, the maps can be
pasted into another program such as The Print Shop® Photo Workshop,
The Print Shop® Photo Workshop, PrintMaster®, American Greetings®
CreataCard®, Microsoft® Paint, etc. Once a map has been pasted into
another program, it can be saved and exported as an image file. The

Follow the procedure below to copy a map from
Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™.
- Launch Broderbund® 3D World Atlas™ and open the map to be
copied.
- Click the Copy Map to Clipboard button (resembles a piece of
paper with a paperclip) located in the Viewpoint Data Readout
box. This will copy the current map to the Windows® Clipboard.
- Click OK when the following message appears: "Map has been
copied to clipboard. You can now paste it into another
application."
- Launch a print (or paint) program (e.g., The Print Shop®,
PrintMaster®, etc.) and use its Paste option (typically found in
the program's Edit menu) to paste the map copied in Step 2.
NOTE: To edit, print, export or enhance the map in the
program launched in Step 4, view that program's Help files.
