The following are Basic
Troubleshooting techniques. These steps can be used on any program

|
Basic Troubleshooting 1. Make sure
the machine meets or exceeds the program's minimum system
requirements. 2. Ensure that the Color Depth and Resolution are
configured to match the display settings stated in the Minimum

OS configure the system to use minimum extensions. 4. After closing
TSRs, uninstall and reinstall, this ensures a CLEAN INSTALL of the

set the Read Ahead Optimization to No Read-ahead. Also, ensure that
the File System line under the Performance tab in System Properties
says 32bit, and does not say Some drives are using MS-DOS(r)

Problem Opening
MATHDT_W.DXR -45 |
|
While attempting to start Carmen
Sandiego Word Detective(tm) ver 1.1, a message may appear as
"Problem opening MATHDT_W.DXR -45." The message indicates the
possible existence of 16-bit CD-ROM drivers loaded on your computer.
Carmen Sandiego Word Detective(tm) will be unable to start with a
16-bit CD-ROM driver. These are the instructions to ensure that the
driver for your CD-ROM drive is a 32-bit Windows(r) 95/98 driver and
not a DOS 16-bit driver. |
|
How to check for driver information
1. Click the Start button, choose Settings, and then click Control
Panel. The Control Panel will open. 2. Double-click the System icon.
The System Properties window will appear. 3. Click the Performance
tab and make a note of what is listed on the File System line. 4. If
the File System line reports that some drives are using MS-DOS
compatible drivers, it is likely that the CD-ROM driver used by your
system is not fully a 32-bit Windows(r) 95/98 driver. 5. See further
information below if your system is not fully a 32-bit Windows(r)
95/98 driver system. How to check your CD-ROM driver in Device
Manager: 1. While you are still in the System Properties control
panel, click the Device Manager tab. 2. Locate CD-ROM in the list of
device types under Computer. 3. Click the plus sign (+) next to
CD-ROM. 4. If you do not see the CD-ROM device type listed or if you
see a yellow circle with a black exclamation mark (!) next to the
CD-ROM driver line, your CD ROM driver may not be a 32-bit Windows(r)
95/98 driver. It is also possible that there are both 32-bit and
16-bit CD-ROM drivers working simultaneously. 5. Contact the
manufacturer of your CD-ROM drive, or the manufacturer of your
computer, for further assistance with updating your device drivers. |
