Auto-Installation Does
Not Begin |
|
After inserting the
ClueFinders® Reading Adventures™ Ages 9-12 v 1.2 CD into the CD-ROM
drive, Auto-Play does not start the installation. Installing the
program manually will resolve the issue. Consult the remainder of
this technical note for the procedure.
Follow the steps below for the operating
system in use to complete a manual installation of the program. |
Windows®
- Place the ClueFinders® Reading Adventures™ Ages
9-12 v 1.2 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Double-click the My Computer shortcut on the
Desktop. For Windows® XP, click Start and click My Computer.
- When the My Computer window opens, double-click
the shortcut that represents the drive containing the ClueFinders®
Reading Adventures™ Ages 9-12 v 1.2 CD. The installation Welcome
window will open.
NOTE: If installation Welcome window does not open and the
contents of the CD are displayed instead, double-click the
Play.exe file to begin the installation.
- Click Next and follow the prompts to complete
the installation.
Macintosh®
- Place the ClueFinders® Reading Adventures™ Ages
9-12 v 1.2 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Double-click ClueFinders Reading. The
installation window will open.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to complete
the installation.

|
CD Is Not Recognized |
|
After inserting the CD
into the CD-ROM drive when prompted, the CD is not recognized. Any
number of the following conditions may cause this issue: wrong CD is
used, CD needs cleaned, CD-ROM drive settings require changes, or
the CD-ROM driver is corrupted, outdated, or the wrong one. Consult
the remainder of this technical note for additional information.
By completing the procedures that follow,
the CD-Read issue may be resolved. Begin with item one and proceed
through the list. |
- Verify that the correct CD is used when
prompted to insert the CD.
- Clean the CD. Place a small amount of
nonabrasive, liquid soap on the shiny side of the CD. Using your
fingertips and warm water, gently rub the soap on the CD in a
circular motion. Rinse the CD thoroughly and dry it using a clean,
soft T-shirt or lint-free towel. Do not use paper towels or tissue
paper.
- Change the Read Ahead setting in the following
manner:
- Return to the desktop and right click on the
My Computer icon.
- Select Properties from the menu that appears
and click on the Performance tab in the Systems Properties
window.
- Click the File System button and click the
CD-ROM tab.
- Locate Optimize Access Pattern For:.
- Click the arrow to the right of the
information field and select the No Read Ahead option.
- Restart Windows®.
- Verify that the computer is utilizing a 32-bit
file system. In the Systems Properties window (found in Step 3
above), click the Performance tab. Verify that the File System
reads 32-bit. (If it reads anything else, contact the computer
manufacturer for installation of the proper CD-ROM or hard drive
drivers.)
- Verify that the most current version of the
driver for the CD-ROM drive is used. Contact the computer
manufacturer for additional information.
- Try to use a different CD in the CD-ROM drive
to see if it can be read.
- If possible, insert the CD that is not
recognized into the CD-ROM drive of another computer to see if the
issue remains.

Puzzle Will Not
Refresh in Jukebox Jumbler |

In the Jukebox Jumbler,
after receiving five clues and electing to continue with the game,
the puzzle will not refresh after inserting one of the gems. View

To refresh the puzzle,
exit and re-enter the activity. The Jukebox Jumbler will refresh the
puzzle. |

Background
Installation Screen Freezes |
|
When installing the
program the only window you see is the background window for the
installer. Typically, this occurs after setup is finished copying
files to the hard drive. Another window or dialog (e.g.,
registration dialog) may be hiding behind the installation
background waiting for a response. Toggling to the window or dialog
waiting for a response will allow you to complete the installation.

toggle between screens. |
- Press and hold down the ALT key on the
keyboard.
- Tap the TAB key once. A menu of icons for each
program that is open will appear.
NOTE: If other programs where open while running the
installation, an icon for those programs will appear as well. You
may need to tap the TAB key one or more times to select the
correct icon that represents the registration dialog.
- Release the ALT key. The Registration dialog
should appear, letting you complete the installation.

Wrong Program Name Appears
on Exit |
|
When exiting the
ClueFinders® Reading Adventures™ Ages 9-12 v 1.2, the following
message appears: "Do you really want to exit ClueFinders Mystery of
the Missing Amulet?" View the remainder of this technical note for

This message is incorrect.
Click Yes to exit ClueFinders® Reading Adventures™ Ages 9-12 v 1.2.

Not enough disk space |
| When attempting to install Madeline,
Cluefinder or Reader Rabbit titles, the message "Not enough
disk space" appears. I have more than enough space. (This
typically occurs when attempting to install the program to a
hard drive that is larger than 2 GB.) |
|
Follow
the procedure below to install the program.
1. Place the Program CD into the CD-ROM drive. Allow time for the
CD-ROM drive to start up. If auto-install begins, skip to Step 5.
(If auto-run does not begin, continue with the next step.)
2. Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box will appear.
3. Type D:\Setup.exe in the Open: field and click OK. (If the CD-ROM
drive containing the CD is represented by a different letter,
replace D with that letter.)
4. Click Yes to install the program.
5. When the Welcome dialog box appears, click Next. The Software
License Agreement will appear.
6. Click Yes, if you agree to the terms of the agreement.
7. **HERE IS THE IMPORTANT STEP** : At the Choose Destination
Location, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN the CTRL key and click Next with the
your mouse. The Select Program Folder dialog box will appear. (This
by-passes the disk check)
9. Release the CTRL key and follow the on-screen prompts to continue
installing the program. |
