If no sound is being
heard it may be due to the Microsoft Audio Codecs not being
installed.
To install Microsoft Audio Codecs:
- Click Start, select Settings, then click on
Control Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next, No, and Next.
- Click Other Devices and Next.
- In the Left Window, click Microsoft Audio
Codecs.
- In the Right Window, click Ima Adpcm Codec.
- Click Next and Finish.
- A window will appear with the message: Do you
want to restart your computer now?
- Click Yes.
- After the system restarts try the application.

Missing Names Be - Z in

When selecting People
of the Bible, the names appear to be missing. |
When this issue occurs, look in the
Nave’s Topical Bible, which lists names A-Z.
To do this:
Click the Find tool button.
Click the Down Arrow button at the end of the Look in box under the
Table of Contents tab.
Click Nave’s Topical Bible from the drop down list. This will list
names A-Z of people of the Bible |

Locks Up On Registration |
|
If the modem is on a
COM Port other than COM 2 the program may lock up while trying to
access the modem. |
Solution 1:
Disable the registration by pressing this three key sequence - CTRL,
SHIFT, and ENTER.Solution
2:
Use this solution only if solution 1 does not work.
- Click Start, then click on Run.
- Type "C:\Program Files\Compton's Home Library\CIBNIV\cnm.ini"
including the quotation marks and click OK or press Enter.
- The CNM.INI file should open in Notepad. Look
for a section named [Registration]. Under that line look for:
Disable=0
- Click at the end of this line and press
backspace once.
- Type the number one. This line should now read:
Disable=1
- Close Notepad by clicking on the X at the top
right.
- Click Yes to save the changes.
- Give the application another try.

Scrolling While
Highlighting Text |

This procedure requires that the
CTRL key and the down arrow key be pressed while highlighting.
With the left hand, hold down the (CTRL) key and the (Down arrow)
key while highlighting the text with the mouse. |

Words Cut Off
When Printing From Journal |

When the words are getting
cut off when printing from the journal, copy the text to a word
processor and print.
- Highlight the text that is wanted. If more than
the text that is in the viewer is wanted, hold down the CTRL and
down arrow key while still highlighting the text.
- Once the text is highlighted, click the icon in
the upper-left corner of the window where the text is located. A
drop down menu should appear and provide an option to select Copy
Text.
- Open the word processor.
- Click Edit and select Paste. The article should
now appear.
- Click File and Print.

The application requires that
certain fonts be present on the system to display text correctly. If
the program is unable to find the fonts it needs, some text may
display poorly or in unreadable fonts.
To correct this issue, make a note of the missing font or fonts
listed and exit the application. |
Windows 95/98/NT
- Click Start, select Settings, then click on
Control Panel.
- Double-click the Fonts folder.
- Click File and Install New Font.
- Browse to the \WINDOWS\Fonts directory. A list
of available fonts should appear.
- Click the font that was listed as missing in
the error message received.
- Click OK.
- Exit Fonts and Control Panel.
If no list of fonts appears in \WINDOWS\FONTS, do
a search for files ending in TTF for the correct directory location.
Windows 3.1
- Double-click the Control Panel icon located in
the Main group.
- Double-click the Fonts icon.
- Click the Add button.
- Browse to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. A list
of available fonts should appear.
- Click the font that was listed as missing in
the error message received.
- Click OK and Close.
If no list of fonts appears in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM, do

- Exit Compton's Interactive Bible NIV.
- Double-click the Control Panel icon located in

should NOT be checked.
- Click OK.
- Exit Fonts and Control Panel and restart

Boosting Performance |
|
|
While it is possible to
run the program directly from the CD, performance will be sluggish
because of the CD-ROM access time. The program runs best when
installed on a hard drive using the Medium or Large installation
setting.
It is also possible to boost performance by turning off the button
sounds. To do this:
- With Compton's Interactive Bible open, click
the Menu button at the top.
- Click Preferences.
- Click the tab labeled Sound & Media.
- Remove the checkmark from the Play sounds
when buttons are clicked checkbox.

- Click Start, select Settings, then click on

- Scroll to Video Compression.
- Place a check in the box.
- Click OK and OK.
- Restart Windows.

Text is
Illegible or Displays Incorrect Fonts |
|
Certain Lotus or IBM
products, such as Lotus Wordpro, install a font that interferes with
the fonts used by Windows 95. This issue can be resolved by removing
the Monotype Sorts Font version 2.0 from the system |
To correct this issue:
- Click Start, select Settings, then click on
Control Panel.
- Double-click the Fonts icon.
- Look for the font labeled Monotype Sorts
Font (sometimes listed as
Mtsorts_.ttf).
- Right-click the font and select Delete to
remove the font.
- Exit Fonts and Control Panel.

Problems Reading CD |

If there are issues
with the CD-ROM performance, the issue may be solved by adjusting
the cache settings on the CD-ROM drive. |
- Click Start, select Settings, then click on
Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Select the tab labeled Performance.
- File System and Virtual Memory should both
indicate 32-bit. Click the File System button.
- Click the tab labeled CD-ROM.
- Move the slider for Supplemental cache size
all the
way to Large.
- The contents of the Optimize access pattern
for box should match the speed of the CD-ROM drive.
- Click OK and OK and exit Control Panel.
- Restart Windows.

If the system has been
set for the Start menu to be Always on Top, some of the
program's buttons may be hidden. |
To correct this issue:
- Click Start, select Settings, then click on
Taskbar.
- Deselect Auto Hide and Always on Top.

This error message is
often related to the video driver being used by Windows. |
To correct this issue,
change the display settings to 640x480, 256 colors. An alternative
is to switch to using a Microsoft Super VGA video driver.
To change your display settings:
1) Right-click on any blank area on your desktop and select
Properties.
2) Click on the Settings tab.
3) Click on the down arrow under colors and select 256 colors from
the list.
4) Click on the down arrow under Screen Area and select 640 x 480
from the list.
5) Click Apply, then click OK. |

For the videos to play
correctly, Video for Windows must be installed.
Compton's Interactive Bible NIV includes Video for Windows version
1.1e. To install:
- Click File and Run.
- Type D:\VFW11E\SETUP.EXE and press Enter. If
the CD-ROM drive is a different letter, substitute as needed.
- Follow the instructions provided.

To remove the application
under Windows 95/98/NT, use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
With Windows 3.1, run Setup on the CD.
To uninstall Compton's Interactive Bible NIV:
Windows 95/98/NT
- Click Start, select Settings, then click on
Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Select Compton's Interactive Bible from the
list on the left.
- Click the Install/Uninstall button.
- Follow the instructions provided.
Uninstalling this application will not remove any
files that have been created, such as bookmark lists or
Presentations slide shows.
Windows 3.1
- Click File and Run.
- Type D:\SETUP and press Enter to begin running
Setup.
- Select Uninstall the Bible and click
Next.
- Follow the instructions provided.

This error will occur
during installation and may result in the computer locking up. It is
caused when portions of the program called Microsoft Test
have been installed to the system by another application. |
The files involved
can be safely deleted from the system. To do this:
- Click Start, select Find, then click on Files
or Folders.
- Type MSCOMSTF.DLL in the Named line.
- For Look in, select the drive letter
containing Windows (probably C:\)
- Click Find Now.
- Delete any files found.
- Repeat this process for the following files:

available which offered direct access to the user's online service
from within the application. This feature was used for research, to
find updated information, contact fellow users, and more. The option
is still available in the application but clicking the link no

With the large hard drives available today there are many that would
like to install this application completely to the hard drive so
that the CD is not required.
There is not an option available to install this application
completely to the hard drive and it will not work correctly if
copying everything from the CD to the hard drive. The CD will always
be required in running this application. |

This error will occur
during the installation process and is due to an incorrect or
missing line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. |
To correct this
issue, do the following:
- Click Start, select Programs, and click on
Windows Explorer.
- Scroll down to the Windows directory and
Double-click.
- Check to see if there is a sub-directory
(folder) listed under Windows named TEMP.
- If there is a sub-directory named TEMP, close
Windows Explorer. Continue with Step 7. If there is no TEMP
sub-directory, click File, New, and Folder.
- Type TEMP and press Enter.
- Exit Windows Explorer.
- Click Start, then click on Run.
- Type SYSEDIT and click OK. This will open the
System Editor with a number of files.
- Select the AUTOEXEC.BAT.
- If there is already a SET TEMP= line listed,
change the path listed to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP. Continue with Step
- If there is not a SET TEMP= line listed, add a
new line by typing SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
- Press Enter.
- Click file and Exit.
- Click YES to save the changes.
- Restart the computer for the change to take
affect.
- Give the installation another try.

Registration Does Not

This product is a
fairly old product and has not been updated since 1996. It is not
uncommon for the registration process to fail on the newer systems
being used today. |

When the registration
process fails we can register the application for you manually. In
order to do so we need your complete name, address, and phone number
along with information on the operating system being used (Windows
95/98/NT/2000). Please send this information to us by sending an

program title and version number. |

Administrator Rights |

If anyone is having
probs using any of our programs on Win2000, the first questions to
ask is: Are you logged on as Adminisrtator? If not try to get them
to log on as the administrator. If they no longer have the original
problem under administrator, they do not have the approprate rights. |
To change the rights that
one specific file and/or program is run under, follow the
steps below:
- While logged on as the Administrator, double
click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
- Double click on the C:\ drive
- Find the Folder of the program in question
- Right Click the *.exe icon, and scroll to
"create shortcut"
- Now a shortcut should be created in the same
directory (will have the small arrow in the upper left corner)
- On that shortcut, right click and scroll to the
Properties entry on the context menu that appears.
- On the shortcut tab, select "run as a different
user", then click apply
- Log on as a different user- in this case test
- Double-click on "my computer"
- Double-click on the C:\ drive
- Double-click on the appropriate program folder
- Click on and drag the shortcut that was created
in step 4 to the desktop.
