If you are experiencing problems with starting your CD-ROM or are
experiencing persistent crashing, try these steps: |
| |
| If you are running
Windows 95/98 make sure you
run the 32bit projector (it will either be called 'WIN95.EXE' or its
name will be the CD-ROM name followed by '32-BIT' e.g. 'HISTORY
32-BIT').
If you are running Windows 3.1,
make sure you run the 16-bit projector (if the file is called
'WIN3X.EXE' or if it does not say 32-BIT, it is the 16-bit
projector).
Make sure that you have enough RAM
installed on your system.
Re-install QuickTime (ensure
that you have QuickTime 16 for Windows 3.1 and Quick Time 32 for
Windows 95/98). |

Windows 95/98 installation procedure for DOS based products |
| |
|
A DOS game will not run directly in
Windows. Please follow these installation
instructions to ensure that the game will work properly on your
machine. I hope this will solve any problems you
might have encountered with our product.
Click on the Start button and then
select the Run option.
Next click on the Browse button.
Select your CD-ROM drive, then
double-click on the Applications folder to open it.
Then select the executable file (.exe).
Click the Open button, followed by
the OK button.
When the DOS window appears, push the
Enter key to install the program onto your hard drive. The game
should then begin.

Autorun titles |
| |
|
Any titles marked with the Autorun logo
on the package will start up automatically when the disc is inserted
into the drive. They are designed to run
directly off the CD--no installation is required.
When the Master Setup window appears, click once on the "Run
the CD" button. (If you don't already have
QuickTime installed on your machine, or if you're not sure, you need
to click on the "Install QuickTime" button first.)
Be sure to click on this button only once.
Double-clicking it will actually launch two copies of the
program, which will both try to run at the same time.
NOTE: The Autorun feature will work
under Windows 95/98 and Mac OS only. Windows 3.1
does not support Autorun. |

A note
concerning ArcMedia's Autorun titles |
| |
| There can be odd
glitches caused by having two "copies" of a program running at once
-- that is, the program gets launched twice.
This most often occurs with our Autorun versions.
To avoid this, be sure to click the "Run the CD" button on
the Autorun menu only ONCE. If this button is
double-clicked it will register as two clicks and as such, it will
launch the program twice. |
|
|
The video segments that are
supposed to appear in the product do not show up or are replaced by
black squares that do not respond to the video controls. |
| |
|
If any of the video portions of
the product do not appear, it could be that QuickTime is not
installed properly. QuickTime is a small system
component that allows you to view the digital video.
You can make sure that QuickTime is installed correctly for
our Autorun titles if you click on the "Install QuickTime" button in
the Master Setup menu that appears when you insert the CD-ROM.
If it is not an Autorun title, the installer should be called
something to the effect of Install.exe or QT32Install.exe, depending
on the version. Follow the instructions in the install wizard to
complete the process. Once installed, you should
be able to view the video. |
|
|
The message “Handler not found”
appears when starting up a product or when using a product.
|
| |
|
If a “Handler not found” message
appears when launching or using an ArcMedia product, it could be
that QuickTime is not installed properly.
QuickTime is a small system component that allows you to view the
digital video. You can make sure that QuickTime
is installed correctly for our Autorun titles if you click on the
"Install QuickTime" button in the Master Setup menu that appears
when you insert the CD-ROM. If it is not an
Autorun title, the installer should be called something to the
effect of Install.exe or QT32Install.exe, depending on the version.
Follow the instructions in the install wizard to complete the
process. |
|
|
|
|
The installer is requesting a
serial number. |
| |
|
None of the products we design
require a serial number in order to use them.
However, some of the third-party components that we include with our
products offer a free version and a paid "Pro" version.
If you choose the limited version, you can leave the serial
number field blank. If you choose the
full-featured Pro version, then you need to purchase a serial number
from the corresponding developer. For the
purpose of using any of our titles, we do not require the use of any
Pro versions. |

|
Unable to install product on the
hard drive. (Autorun products) |
| |
|
ArcMedia’s titles are designed to
run directly from the CD-ROM. No installation is
required. The program must be executed from the
CD-ROM so that it can find all of its resources.
When you insert the CD-ROM into the drive, the Autorun menu should
appear automatically. Click on the "Run the CD"
button once and the program should begin. |
|
|
Unable to install product on the
hard drive. (non-Autorun products) |
| |
|
For the most part the product
runs directly off the CD-ROM. The install
process simply places a shortcut in the Start menu so that it is
easier to run the program. To install any one of
the Discover series, run the Install.exe program on the respective
CD-ROM. Once the installation process is
complete, there should be a folder in the start menu named Arc
Media. Select the corresponding Discover program
of this directory to run the program. Make sure
the correct CD-ROM is in the drive when running the program. |
|
|
|
|
The disc is unreadable and/or
appears to be physically damaged. |
| |
|
The product might be defective.
To verify this, try the CD on another computer.
If the problem is gone, then there's likely some third-party
software on the original computer conflicting with the program.
If the problem exists on the second computer as well, then
the CD is likely defective and we'll be happy to replace it for you. |
