Movies will not
play or missing DLL files |
| |
|
If you try to
play the game and the movies will not play for you or your get
errors in some of the system files like MSRLE32.DLL or MSVFW32.DLL,
you may have problems with some of the drivers in your computer.
You can test movie playback by using the Media Player
(Start>Programs>Accessories>Multimedia) and playing one of the AVI
movies on the CD. You should download the latest version of DirectX
from the Microsoft web site (click
here). You can also try downloading the latest Indeo driver from
Intel (click
here). If this doesn't correct the problem, you may have to
reinstall Windows 95 to correct the problem. |

|
Game is playing
by itself with no keyboard input |
| |
|
If the game is
playing by itself with no keyboard input, you may be running on a
machine that is too slow (for example, a 486) in which case you will
notice a very low frame rate and out-of-sync audio, or you may be
running on Windows NT (which is not supported). If you are running
on a slower machine such as a Pentium 75, you will probably not have
enough processor power to play full screen and you may experience a
very low frame rate and the game playing by itself. In this case,
try playing the program in the default (small) window. We hope have
a new version shortly that will play full screen without a window
that may allow slower Pentiums to run full screen and it will also
address the Windows NT keyboard issue. |
|
|
Keyboard isn't
responding |
| |
|
If the keyboard
doesn't seem to be responding (always dying on the first move, not
hearing any beeps when a directional key or space bar is pressed),
you may have the NUMLOCK set the wrong way so try toggling it and
trying again. If this doesn't work, try using the separate cursor
keys. If you can get by the initial moves but are not getting any
beeps, your internal PC speaker may not be working (the beep sounds
come from the internal speaker, not your sound card). Also, we
have heard from some owners that selecting a four-button joystick in
the Control Panel will cause the keyboard to not function -- try
setting it to something else. |
|
|
I hear a buzz
from my computer/Intro doesn't start |
| |
Four or more
button joysticks and gamepads seem to interfere with the keyboard
reading causing the games to continually think that keys are being
pressed. This will cause the move beep to always play so you will
hear a constant buzz sound coming from your computer (the move beeps
are played back through the internal PC speaker). You can try
adjusting some of the parameters in the Joysticks Control Panel but
in many cases the only solution is to uninstall your joystick. If
and when we have a new version that solves this, we will send an
email to all registered owners so make sure you register your game
(click on "Register" in the left menu column). If you are using a
Gravis GamePadPro, you must set the setting on the reverse side to
GRIP and install the Gravis Utilities and calibrate it for Gravis
Grip. You will proceed to get a test choice and then a calibration
screen. It will work just like a joystick!
If this doesn't help, try going into the System-Hardware CD config
and disable the read ahead feature. To do this: Go into MY
COMPUTER>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>PERFORMANCE TAB>FILE SYSTEM>CD ROM and
you will see : "Optimize access pattern for:". At this point click
the arrow and scroll through options and you will see "No - Read
ahead". Select it and then click "Apply" And then exit out. You will
need to restart your system after that change is made. |
|
|
Game doesn't
auto-run when you insert the CD |
| |
|
If the program
doesn't automatically run when you put the CD in your computer then
the auto-run feature in your computer is probably not working. You
can still run the programs by double-clicking on "My Computer", then
on your CD-ROM drive and then on DL2. Alternately, you can insert
the CD then select Start>Run and enter D:\DL2.EXE (or sometimes
D:\DL2AVI.EXE) assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter. |
|
|
Save/Load: How
does it work? |
| |
|
When using the
Save/Load features, please be aware that the games will only save
your location once you complete a level and will not save your
position at a specific point within a level. |
|
|
Can't Open AVI
error |
| |
|
If you get a
"Can't Open AVI" error it means that the drivers that tell the
system they can play AVI files can't actually play AVI files when
the games are requesting that they do so. It seems to happen when
multiple drivers have been installed which sometimes happens without
you knowing it when certain applications are installed. You can try
downloading the latest Indeo driver from Intel (click
here). The other solution that has worked is to reinstall
Windows 95. When doing this, run the "Setup" program on the Windows
95 CD when you are already running and in Windows 95 and your
existing programs should remain fully installed after you reinstall
Windows. |

|
Insert CD#2
|
| |
|
There is no CD#2
for Space Ace but what that message means is that the program is
getting an error when it is trying to access a scene on the CD. You
can try to copy the entire "CD1" directory on to the root of your
hard drive if you have the space. If you get an error while copying,
it is either the CD or your CD-ROM drive in which case you can try
doing the same on another computer to determine which it is. If it
copies, try running the program and it will access the data from the
hard drive instead of the CD. If the program then works for you then
there is something wrong with your CD-ROM drive. |

Hints |
| |
|
As an owner of
Space Ace, you are entitled to upgrade to the Dragon's Lair Deluxe
Pack (containing Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and Dragon's Lair II
remastered for Windows) for a special price of $19.95 plus $5.00 S &
H (reg $39.95). If you are interested,
click here for more information on the Deluxe Pack.
When playing Space Ace, remember that
you control Ace's reactions to the events that unfold throughout the
game. You don't directly control Ace's movement but rather you must
make the correct moves at the appropriate time for Ace to survive
the scene. This means, for example, that just by pressing "Left"
doesn't mean Ace will move left.
When the game begins, Ace is not
energized so he is his weak alter-ego Dexter. Borf will shoot at
Dexter and Dexter will automatically jump off the rocks to the left.
You must move Right to jump back behind the rocks and avoid being
hit. Dex will once again jump to the left and you must once again
press Right to jump behind the rocks. If you continually get hit
with the laser gun, you are not making the correct move, or you are
not making the move at the correct time. Try pressing Right
repeatedly when the game begins. At first you will hear "Bad Move
Beeps" (low pitch) until it becomes the correct time for the Right
move to be made, at which time you'll hear a "Good Move Beep" (high
pitch) meaning the correct move has been made and it is accepted.
You should get past the first laser blast. Continue pressing Right
and you should get by the next move. You will now be on a ledge and
must move Left twice to avoid being blasted by the flying robots.
Whenever you press a key there are
two possible sounds you will hear from the computer: a low pitch
beep means that you haven't made the correct move or that your
timing is off; a high pitch beep means you have made the correct
move and it has been accepted.
If you find that you are continually
dying at a certain point in the game then you know that you must
make a move just before this point. You can try all of the five
combinations (Up, Down, Left, Right, Sword) and one of them will
work. Sometimes the timing is tricky with several moves close
together but if you watch the video closely and listen for "Good
Beeps" then you notice when you've passed one move and need to make
the next move. |
