Missing or Corrupt
Picture File |
| When starting the
program, the error "Missing or Corrupt Picture File" occurs. |
- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
- Double-click Add\Remove Programs.
- Click once on Math Munchers Deluxe, click
Add\Remove. Follow the prompts onscreen to remove the program.
- Run Setup again.
- When the screen "Choose Destination Location"
appears, choose the Compact option.
- Complete the installation then run the program.
This will eliminate the "Missing or Corrupt Picture File" message.

No Graphics but the Music Plays |
| When launching the
program, the music plays but there are no graphics. An incorrect
display setting can cause this issue. Changing the setting should
allow Math Munchers™ Deluxe to display properly. Consult the
remainder of this technical note for the procedure. |
Complete the following
procedure to change the color settings to 256 colors.
- Click Start, choose Settings and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon.
- In the Display Properties window, select the
Settings tab.
- Near the bottom-left portion of the window,
under Colors (Windows® 98) or Color Palette (Windows® 95), click
the drop-down menu and choose 256 Colors.
- Click Apply near the bottom-right portion of
the window.
- Choose Yes if asked, "Do you want to restart
the computer?"
NOTE: If 256 Colors
is not an available setting, contact the computer manufacturer for
additional assistance and information. |

256 Colors Required |
| Math Munchers™ Deluxe
requires that the Colors (Windows® 98) or Color Palette (Windows®
95) setting be set to 256 Colors. (This is a minimum requirement of
the program.) Following a step-by-step procedure will allow you to
change the setting or to verify that 256 Colors is chosen as one of
the Display Settings. |
Complete the following
procedure to change the color settings to 256 colors.
- Click Start, choose Settings and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon.
- In the Display Properties window, select the
Settings tab.

Auto-Installation Does
Not Begin |
| After inserting the
Math Munchers™ Deluxe v1.x disc into the CD-ROM drive, the Auto-Run
feature of the computer does not start the installation. Installing
the program manually will resolve the issue. |
Follow the steps below
to complete a manual installation of the program.
- Verify that the proper CD is inserted into the
CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box
will open.
- Type X:\SETUP.EXE in the Open: field, where the
X represents the letter that identifies the CD-ROM drive.
- Click OK. The installation of the program
should begin.
- Follow the prompts to complete the
installation.

Cannot Initialize Sound Macintosh |
|
When starting the program "Cannot
Initialize Sound" appears. |
|
1) Confirm that Sound Manager
version 3.1 or higher is in extensions folder. 2) Disable Ram
Doubler. To do this, press and hold the Tilde(~) key while the
Macintosh restarts. |

CD Is
Not Recognized |
|
After inserting the CD into the
CD-ROM drive when prompted, the CD is not recognized. Any number of
the following conditions may cause this issue: wrong CD is being
used, CD needs cleaned, CD-ROM drive settings require changes, or
the CD-ROM driver is corrupted, outdated, or the wrong one. |
|
By completing the procedures that
follow, the CD-Read issue may be resolved. Begin with item one and
proceed through the list. 1. Verify that the correct CD is being
used when prompted to insert the disc. 2. Clean the CD. Place a
small amount of nonabrasive, liquid soap on the shiny side of the
disc. Using your fingertips and warm water, gently rub the soap on
the disc in a circular motion. Rinse the disc thoroughly and dry it
using a clean, soft T-shirt or lint-free towel. Do not use paper
towels or tissue paper. 3. Change the Read Ahead setting in the
following manner: a. Return to the desktop and right click on the My
Computer icon. b. Select Properties from the menu that appears and
click on the Performance tab in the Systems Properties window. c.
Click the File System button and click the CD-ROM tab. d. Locate
Optimize Access Pattern For:. e. Click the arrow to the right of the
information field and select the No Read Ahead option. f. Restart
Windows(r). 4. Verify that the computer is utilizing a 32-bit file
system. In the Systems Properties window (found in Step 3 above),
click the Performance tab. Verify that the File System reads 32-bit.
(If it reads anything else, contact the computer manufacturer for
installation of the proper CD-ROM or hard drive drivers.) 5. Verify
that the most current version of the driver for the CD-ROM drive is
being used. Contact the computer manufacturer for additional
information. 6. Try to use a different disc in the CD-ROM drive to
see if it can be read. 7. If possible, insert the CD that is not
being recognized into the CD-ROM drive of another computer to see if
the issue remains. |

Correct Score
Does Not Show in Hall of Fame |
|
When viewing the Hall of Fame,
the correct score is not displayed. |
|
If your score is between 32,767 and
65,534 it will not appear in the Hall of Fame. Your correct score
will not appear in the Hall of Fame. To obtain the correct score,
add 65,534 to your score listed in the Hall of Fame. This will be
your actual score however, you cannot change the score in the Hall
of Fame. This will be for you to know your exact score. Example:
Your score in the Hall of Fame is 4466. Take your score 4466, add to
it 65,534. This will equal 70,000 which would be your exact score. |

Freezes at the Stand By
Screen |
|
After you have played several
levels, when the "Stand By" screen appears the program freezes. |
|
Every three screens, a commercial (MIG)
is played. Sometimes it may take several seconds to load. If you
click the screen while "Please Stand By" is displayed, it should
skip over the MIG and the next play screen should appear. 1) Make
sure machine meets minimum system requirements. 2) Use only the
extensions needed to run a CD-ROM program. We suggest Apple CD-ROM,
Foreign File Access, QuickTime, QuickTime Power Plug, Sound Manager
and Speech Manager. System Software 7.1 1) Double-click Hard Drive.
2) Double-click System Folder. 3) Double-click Extensions Folder. At
this point, you will need to create a new folder to drag the
extensions that are not needed into. Click File, New Folder. Name it
Extensions Disabled. 4) Drag the Extensions not needed into it and
close. 5) In the Extensions Folder, you will now have what is needed
to run the program. Refer to the list above for the correct
extensions. System Software 7.5 and Higher 1) Click the Apple,
Control Panels, Extensions Manager. 2) Leave the above extensions on
plus any extensions needed to run your specific Macintosh. 3) Close
all open windows. Click Special, Restart. |

Program Freezes in Windows 3.1 |
|
This occurs at the beginning
where the Muncher is eating popcorn and watching TV. |
|
Ensure the video is set to 640x480
and the colors are 256. Changing the Video Driver 1) Copy your
SYSTEM.INI file to a floppy disk. This file is in the Windows
directory (C:\WINDOWS). If you are at the DOS prompt (C:\WINDOWS),
type COPY SYSTEM.INI A: and press ENTER or COPY SYSTEM.INI B: and
press ENTER depending on the floppy drive you wish to use. If you
are using Windows, double-click Main, File Manager. Click File,
Copy. You want to copy From: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI, To: A: or B:
(Depending on the floppy drive you wish to use). 2) If you are not
already in Windows, Start Windows. In the Main program group in
Windows, double-click Windows Setup, Options, and Change System
Settings. 3) On the far right of Display, click the Down Arrow.
Change your Display to Super VGA (800x600, 16 colors), Super VGA
(800x600, 256 colors) or VGA, depending on your monitor type and
program requirements. Insert the correct Windows disk when you are
prompted to do so, or choose to install the current video driver
that has already been installed on your computer. 4) Restart
Windows. NOTE: Contact your Video Card Manufacturer for updated
drivers. |
