General Protection Fault in Module BIDS50f.DLL
|
| |
While
running Mosby's® Medical Encyclopedia™ 2.0, a message appears
stating that a general protection fault in module BIDS50F.DLL has
occurred. An incorrect year setting in the computer causes this
issue. Verifying that the correct year is chosen will help to
resolve the issue. Follow the instructions
below to resolve the issue.
Windows® 95/98
- Close programs and all windows and return to the desktop.
- Double-click on the Clock at the lower-right corner of the
screen.
- Under Date and Time, change the year to the current year.
- Click Apply and then select OK. Mosby's® Medical
Encyclopedia™ 2.0 should now run properly.

|
|
Fonts View as
Symbols |
| |
While
running Mosby's® Medical Encyclopedia® 2.0, the font characters
appear as symbols. This issue is known to occur on IBM Aptiva
systems or it may occur where Lotus® Smartsuite has been installed.
In each of these situations, a Monotype Sorts font is installed that
interferes with one of the six standard Windows® fonts. Resolve the
issue by deleting the Monotype Sorts font. (Deleting this font
should not cause any additional issues as it is not actively used by
any program.) A second way that the issue might be resolved is to
edit the Fonts Substitution section of the WIN.INI file.
Follow the instructions below as listed in order.
Delete the Monotype Sorts Font
- Close programs and all windows and return
to the desktop.
- Click Start, select Settings and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click the Fonts icon. The fonts will
appear in alphabetical order.
- Locate and then click the Monotype Sorts
font so that it becomes highlighted.
- Press the DELETE key on the keyboard.
(Click "Yes" to send it to the Recycle Bin.)
Edit the Fonts Substitutes Section of the
WIN.INI File
NOTE: Your font substitutes table may be missing one of the
six standard Windows® fonts.
- Click Start and then select Run.
- Type WIN.INI in the Open: field and
then press ENTER. (The WIN.INI file will open.)
- Scroll through the file until you locate
the [FontSubstitutes] section. The following four lines must
appear under the [FontSubstitutes] entry:
Helv=MS Sans Serif
Tms Rmn=MS Serif
Times=Times New Roman
Helvetica=Arial
- Correct any missing or varying lines from
above.
- Select File and then choose Save.
- Select File then choose Exit.
- Restart Windows®. The issue should now be
resolved.
NOTE: If the issue is not resolved, recheck
your edits to verify that they appear exactly as above. If your
WIN.INI FontSubstitutes table is correct, or if the problem persists
after correcting the FontSubstitutes section, then either a Windows®
system font is damaged or missing, or one of the non-system fonts is
causing a conflict. First, verify that all the fonts on the right
side of the FontSubstitutes table (after the "=") are present in the
System Fonts folder. Also, any fonts on the left side of the table
(before the "=") should be removed from the System Fonts folder
(namely Helv, Helvetica, or Times). Contact your computer
manufacturer for additional information and assistance. |

clicking a button. An outdated or corrupted sound card driver
typically causes this issue. Updating this driver should resolve the

should allow you to use the program until the sound card driver has
been updated. Complete the following
procedure to edit the PREFS.INI file.
- Close all windows and return to the desktop.

- Type "C:\Program Files\Medical Library\MME\cnm.ini" in the

follows.

the Notepad window.
