The following methods fix the majority of issues. Please try these
before contacting technical support. |
| |
| Method 1: Disable
any Antivirus or Firewall software
Make sure you have disabled any Antivirus or Firewall software
you may have. Some examples of these programs are Norton Antivirus,
Trend Micro, Mcaffee and Zone Alarm. These types of programs have a
tendency to create conflicts with files/programs necessary for the
game to run. Please see the manufacturers website for instructions
on how to temporarily disable your software.
Method 2: Update Your Video Driver
Contact the manufacturer of your video card to inquire about how
to obtain and install the latest version of the video driver for
your video card or visit the Windows Update site to look for
applicable drivers
To identify the name and manufacturer of your video adapter:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
- Click the Display tab.
- Under Device, look for Name and Manufacturer.
- Click Exit.
Method 3: Update Your Sound Driver
Contact the manufacturer of your sound card to inquire about how
to obtain and install the latest version of the sound driver for
your sound card or visit the Windows Update site to look for
applicable drivers. (See the "Method 4" section of this article for
contact information.)

Method 4: Install the Latest Motherboard Chipset Drivers
If you are using an Intel chipset motherboard, you may be able to
resolve this issue by installing the most recent drivers for the
chipset. Check www.intel.com for the latest drivers available. If
you are using a VIA Technologies chipset motherboard, you may be
able to resolve this issue by installing the most recent drivers for
the chipset. Check www.viaarena.com for the latest drivers
available.
For all other motherboard drivers, please contact the motherboard
manufacturer for the most recent drivers available.
Method 5: Restart Your Computer by Using a Clean Boot
Procedure
When you start Microsoft Windows, typically there are a number of
programs that start automatically and run in the background that may
interfere with the game. These programs may include antivirus and
system utility programs. When you perform a clean boot, you prevent
these programs from starting automatically. You must be logged on as
an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete
this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network
policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.
To restart your computer by using a clean boot procedure, follow
these steps when you are using Windows XP.
Note You may experience a temporary loss of some services
functionality when you follow these steps. Restoring the settings
restores the functionality, but may result in the return of the
original error message or behavior.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
- On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
- Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check
boxes:
- Process SYSTEM.INI File
- Process WIN.INI File
- Load Startup Items
- On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft
Services check box, and then click Disable All.
- Click OK, and then click Restart.
* By replacing the checks in the boxes and restarting the computer
after testing the game, you can return your computer to the same
status as before you cleared the check boxes.

- On the Users tab, click Add.
- Type a name for your user account, your full name, and a

network, type the domain name, and then click Next.
Note: If your computer is set up as an individual computer
(without a network) or in a peer-to-peer network, you do not
have to provide a domain name.
- Type a user password, and then type the user password again
to confirm it.
Important: Passwords are case-sensitive. For example, "MyPassword"
and "mypassword" are treated as two different passwords.

click Finish.
Note Some games require a user account with Administrator level
access to run. |

Laptops not supported |
| |
| Our products have not
been tested to be used on laptop computers. Laptops are all-in-one
devices that combine a monitor, CPU, keyboard, video and audio
cards. Because of this, some resources are ‘shared’ or ‘integrated’.
Also the CPU or processors have a different architecture than that
of desktop PC's. Therefore the device performance is different and
game stability cannot be guaranteed.
While we do not support or test our products on laptops, that
does not neccessarily mean that they will not run. We would
recommend that you update all device drivers associated with your
laptop and try the game. If this still does not work, then I would
like to re-iterate that unfortunately there is no further help or
support we can provide you. |

Program Freezes or CD-Read Error Occurs |
| |
Madeline™ Classroom Companion 2nd Grade freezes, presents a CD-read
error, or experiences extremely long CD-read times during start up.
These conditions are typically related to the CD-ROM drive. Cleaning
the CD and checking other CD-ROM related settings could resolve the
issues. Updating to the current CD-ROM drive for the system could
also be necessary. By completing the
procedures that follow, the CD-read issue may be resolved.
- Verify that the correct CD is inserted when prompted.
- Clean the CD. Place a small amount of nonabrasive, liquid
soap on the shiny side of the CD. Using your fingertips and warm
water, gently rub the soap on the CD in a circular motion. Rinse
the CD thoroughly and dry it using a clean, soft T-shirt or
lint-free towel. Do not use paper towels or tissue paper.
- Verify that the computer is utilizing a 32-bit file system.
- Return to the Windows Desktop and right-click the My
Computer icon.
- Select Properties from the menu that appears and click
the Performance tab.
- Verify that the File System field reads 32-bit. (If it
reads anything else, contact the computer manufacturer.)
- Activate Sync Data Transfer in the following manner:
- In the System Properties window (see previous
procedure), click the Device Manager tab.
- Choose View Devices By Type. In the list that appears,
locate CD-ROM or CD-ROM Controller.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to this item.
- Couble-click the name that appears beneath this item.
- In the Properties window, click the Settings tab. Find
the Sync Data Transfer checkbox and confirm that it is
checked.
- Click OK.
- Verify that the most current version of the driver for the
CD-ROM drive is being used. Contact the computer manufacturer
for additional information.
- Try to use a different CD in the CD-ROM drive to see if it
is readproperly.
- If possible, insert the problem CD into the CD-ROM drive of
another computer to determine if the issue is system specific.
NOTE: If none of the above procedures resolve the issue,
continue by closing the background programs.
Close Background Programs (Windows® 95/98)
NOTE: Before closing any background program, consult the
computer manufacturer to identify which programs may need to remain
running.
- Exit all programs and return to the Windows® Desktop.
- Press and hold down the CTRL and ALT keys at the same time.
- While these keys are pressed, tap the DELETE key once.
- Release the CTRL and ALT keys. A Close Program window will
open. (In it appears a listing of all of the programs currently
running on the system. For any installation using Windows® 95 or
Windows® 98, two programs must remain active: EXPLORER and
SYSTRAY.)
- Start at the top of the Close Program listing and highlight
a program by clicking on it once.
- Click the End Task button in the lower left corner of the
Close Program window. (Do not click the Shut Down button as it
will shut down the computer. This will restart all programs that
have been closed, requiring that the procedure be repeated from
the beginning.) As a safety feature, only one program can be
closed at a time. The Close Programs window will close each time
the End Task button is selected. To continue, repeat Steps 2 and
3 to reopen the Close Program window.
NOTE: Most programs will close with a single End Task
action. Some programs, however, will require that the End Task
button be selected again. If a message appears indicating that
the program is not responding, click End Task again and proceed.
- When only EXPLORER and SYSTRAY are showing in the Close
Program window, click the Cancel button.
- Attempt to run the program. (These background programs will
start when the computer is restarted. To close them again, the
process will have to be repeated.)
