Extremely Fast |

The
movie clips of Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool play at
extremely high speeds. A corrupt installation of QuickTime® can
cause this behavior. Reinstalling QuickTime® should resolve the
issue. Complete the instructions below to
help resolve the issue.
- Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start and select Run.
- Type D:\INSDATA\QT\QT32INS.EXE (where D represents
the letter of the CD-ROM drive) in the Open: field. If the
letter of the CD-ROM drive is different, use that letter when
typing the information in the field.
- Click OK.
- Click Agree.
- Click Install.
- Click Start.
- If the installation program finds any previously installed
versions of QuickTime®, click Delete.
- Click Install.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation of
QuickTime®. The issue should be resolved.

Errors Running Setup.exe in Windows 3.1 |

Receiving error messages when running Setup.exe from the File/Run
option in Windows® 3.1. Complete the the
following steps to install the program.
- Double-click Main in Program Manager.
- Double-click File Manager.
- At the top there should be icons that represent the
available drives. Click the CD-ROM icon to change to the CD-ROM
drive.
- Double-click the Setup_k.exe file.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Freezing or Error Messages When Running |

While
attempting to install, use the AutoRun feature, or start Madeline
Classroom Companion Preschool, the either freeze or generate an
error message. Following the procedure below resolves the issue.
- Right-click Start.
- Click Open.
- Double-click the Programs folder.
- Double-click the Creative Wonders folder.
- Press and hold down the ALT key, on the keyboard, and then
double- click the Madeline's Preschool icon.
- Release the ALT key.
- Click the Shortcut tab.
- Change the Target line to X:\mcc\madccp32.exe (where
X represents the letter of the CD-ROM drive).
- Click Apply and then click OK.
- Restart the system.
- Start the Madeline Classroom Companion Preschool and the
issue should now be resolved.

Printing
Issues on a Macintosh |

The
program will not print properly. The program
will not print properly through At Ease or with the Launcher.
At Ease and\or the Launcher will need to be disabled. For assistance
in disabling At Ease and Launcher, please contact Apple®. |

Unexpected Error on a Macintosh |

When
trying to start the program on a Macintosh an "Unexpected Error"
occurs. The system does not have the
appropriate Mathlib Extension. Contact Apple Computer for the
appropriate extension.

Cannot Load Correct Picture File (Macintosh®)

When
running Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool on a Macintosh®
system, a message appears as "Cannot load correct picture file."
There are three possible causes of this issue: a conflict with RAM
Doubler®, virtual memory is turned on, or the CD is not in the
CD-ROM drive. Troubleshooting these areas will help to identify the
source of the issue. Follow the procedures
below to help resolve the issue.
- Ensure that the CD is in the CD-ROM drive.
- Disable RAM Doubler®.
- Click Special and then click Restart.
- When the computer begins to restart, immediately press
and hold down the tilde (~) key on your keyboard.
- When your Macintosh® has restarted, RAM Doubler® will be
disabled.
- Disable Virtual Memory.
System Software 7.1
- Return to the desktop and double-click the Hard Disk
icon.
- Double-click System folder.
- Double-click Control Panels folder.
- Double-click Memory.
- Choose OFF for the Virtual Memory.
- Close all open windows.
- Click Special and then click Restart.
System Software 7.5 (and higher)
- Click the Apple Menu, select Control Panels and then
click Memory.
- Choose OFF for Virtual Memory.
- Close all open windows.
- Click Special and then click Restart.

Blank Screen When Launching (Macintosh®)

When
starting Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool on a Macintosh®
system, a blank, white screen appears. This program requires 32-bit
addressing in order to run properly. Verifying that 32-bit
Addressing is enabled will help to resolve the issue.
Follow the directions below to enable 32-bit
addressing.
System Software 7.1
- Return to the desktop and double-click the Hard Disk icon.
- Double-click System folder.
- Double-click Control Panels folder.
- Double-click Memory.
- Turn 32-bit Addressing on.
NOTE: If the option for 32-bit addressing, contact Apple®
for assistance. It may be possible to install it.
- Close all open windows.
- Click Special and then click Restart.
- After the computer restarts, run the program.
System Software 7.5 (and higher)
- Click the Apple Menu.
- Click Control Panels.
- Click the Memory Control Panel.
- Turn 32-bit Addressing on.
- Close the Memory Control Panel.
- Click Special and then click Restart.
- After the computer restarts, run the program.

No Sound |

Sound
may be missing on some systems that use a Voice Modem. Disable the
"Wave Device for Voice Modem" listing in Device Manager.
NOTE: The Answering Machine/Speaker Phone
features of the computer will be disabled by this procedure. Reverse
the settings adjustment to re-enable the voice features of the
modem.
- Right-click My Computer on the desktop and select
Properties.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Click the "+" plus in front of Sound, Video and Game
Controllers. The plus will change to a "-" minus and additional
information will be displayed below this line.
- Double-click the line "Wave Device for Voice Modem".
- In the Device Usage section, place a check in front of
"Disable in this Hardware Profile".
- Uncheck the box in front of "Exists in all Hardware
Profiles".
- Click OK.

256 Colors

Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool requires that the Colors
(Windows® 98) or Color Palette (Windows® 95) setting be set to 256
Colors. (This is a minimum requirement of the program.) Following a
step-by-step procedure will allow changing of the setting, or
verification that 256 Colors is chosen as one of the Display
Settings. 0
Complete the following procedure to change the color settings to 256
colors.
- Click Start, choose Settings and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon.
- In the Display Properties window, select the Settings tab.
- Near the bottom-left portion of the window, under Colors
(Windows® 98) or Color Palette (Windows® 95), click the
drop-down menu and choose 256 Colors.
- Click Apply near the bottom-right portion of the window.
- Choose Yes if asked, "Do you want to restart the computer?"
NOTE: If 256 Colors is not an available setting, contact the
computer manufacturer for additional assistance and information. |

'Severe' Current File: Madeline.mms |

When
attempting to install Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool, the
installation stops at six percent completion and the following
message appears: 'Severe' Current File: Madeline.mms. This issue is
caused by a conflict that occurs during the installation. Creating a
shortcut to the program should resolve the issue.
Resolve the issue by following the instructions
below.
- Insert the program CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start, choose select Find and then click Files or
Folders.
- Type MADCCK32.EXE in the Named: field.
- In the Look in: field, select the letter of the CD-ROM
drive.
- Click Find Now. The MADCCK32.EXE file will appear in the
lower portion of the Find: All Files window.
- Right-click on MADCCK32.EXE.
- Choose Create Shortcut. A shortcut will appear on the
desktop.
- Close the Find: All Files window and return to the desktop.
- Right-click the shortcut icon and choose Rename.
- Rename the shortcut as Madeline Classroom Companion
Preschool.
- Double-click the shortcut icon. The program should launch.
NOTE: In the future when launching the program, insert the
Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool CD into the CD-ROM drive and
double-click the Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool shortcut on
the desktop. |

Cannot Open
Madeline.mms |

During
installation of the Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool program,
the message appears as "Cannot Open Madeline.mms." This issue
results when a conflict during installation occurs. Placing a
shortcut on the desktop and launching the program using the shortcut
should allow the program to start properly.
Resolve the issue by following the instructions below.
- Insert the program CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start, choose select Find and then click Files or
Folders.
- Type MADCCK32.EXE in the Named: field.
- In the Look in: field, select the letter of the CD-ROM
drive.
- Click Find Now. The MADCCK32.EXE file will appear in the
lower portion of the Find: All Files window.
- Right-click on MADCCK32.EXE.
- Choose Create Shortcut. A shortcut will appear on your
desktop.
- Close the Find: All Files window and return to the desktop.
- Right-click the shortcut icon and choose Rename.
- Rename the shortcut as Madeline Classroom Companion
Preschool.
- Double-click the shortcut icon. The program should launch.
NOTE: In the future when launching the program, insert the
Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool CD into the CD-ROM drive and
double-click the Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool shortcut on

Auto-Installation Does Not Begin |

After
inserting the Madeline™ Classroom Companion Preschool CD into the
CD-ROM drive, the installation does not begin. Installing the
program manually will resolve the issue.
Follow the steps below to complete a manual installation.
- Verify that the proper CD is inserted into the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box will open.
- Type D:\SETUP.EXE in the Open: field. (The letter D
represents the CD-ROM drive. If a different letter represents
the CD-ROM drive, use that letter in the Open: field.)
- Click OK. The installation should begin.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Not enough disk space |
| When attempting to install Madeline,
Cluefinder or Reader Rabbit titles, the message "Not enough
disk space" appears. I have more than enough space. (This
typically occurs when attempting to install the program to a
hard drive that is larger than 2 GB.) |

Follow
the procedure below to install the program.
1. Place the Program CD into the CD-ROM drive. Allow time for the
CD-ROM drive to start up. If auto-install begins, skip to Step 5.
(If auto-run does not begin, continue with the next step.)
2. Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box will appear.
3. Type D:\Setup.exe in the Open: field and click OK. (If the CD-ROM
drive containing the CD is represented by a different letter,
replace D with that letter.)
4. Click Yes to install the program.
5. When the Welcome dialog box appears, click Next. The Software
License Agreement will appear.
6. Click Yes, if you agree to the terms of the agreement.
7. **HERE IS THE IMPORTANT STEP** : At the Choose Destination
Location, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN the CTRL key and click Next with the
your mouse. The Select Program Folder dialog box will appear. (This
by-passes the disk check)
9. Release the CTRL key and follow the on-screen prompts to continue
installing the program. |
