Error, Handler Not Defined |

When
running Madeline™ Thinking Games, the following error message
appears: "Script Error, Handler Not Defined." An accelerated video
card can cause this issue. Lowering the hardware acceleration will
help to resolve the issue. The remainder of this technical note
describes how to continue. Complete the
following steps to lower the hardware acceleration to Basic.
- Close all programs and windows and return to the desktop.
- Double-click My Computer.
- Double-click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- Click the Performance tab.
- Click Graphics at the bottom of the window.
- Position the mouse pointer on the hardware adjusting needle
and click and keep the mouse button pressed.
- By moving the mouse, slide the hardware acceleration needle
left to Basic, which is the second notch from the left. The word
Basic will appear beneath the adjusting needle.
NOTE: Do not select the NONE setting.
- Release the mouse button.
- Click OK. The System Properties window will reappear.
- Click Close.
- Click Yes to restart the computer.
- When the computer restarts, run the program.

difficulty switching to French or Spanish? Here is a brief review
explaining how the game works. At the
beginning of the game, click the French or Spanish button at the
bottom of the screen. The first round of the game will introduce
items in English only. Thereafter, French or Spanish (depending on
which language was selected) will be introduced in different
combinations of pictures and words. |

256 Colors Required
|

Madeline™ Thinking Games requires that the Colors (Windows® 98) or
Color Palette (Windows® 95) setting be set to 256 Colors. (This is a
minimum requirement of the program.) Following a step-by-step
procedure will allow changing of the setting, or verification that
256 Colors is chosen as one of the Display Settings.
Complete the following procedure to change the
color settings to 256 colors.
- Click Start, choose Settings and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon.
- In the Display Properties window, select the Settings tab.
- Near the bottom-left portion of the window, under Colors
(Windows® 98) or Color Palette (Windows® 95), click the
drop-down menu and choose 256 Colors.
- Click Apply near the bottom-right portion of the window.
- Choose Yes if asked, "Do you want to restart the computer?"
NOTE: If 256 Colors is not an available setting, contact the
computer manufacturer for additional assistance and information. |

Auto-Installation Does Not Begin |

After
inserting the Madeline™ Thinking Games CD into the CD-ROM drive, the
installation does not begin. Installing the program manually will
resolve the issue. Follow the steps below to
complete a manual installation.
- Verify that the proper CD is inserted into the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box will open.
- Type D:\SETUP.EXE in the Open: field. (The letter D
represents the CD-ROM drive. If a different letter represents
the CD-ROM drive, use that letter in the Open: field.)
- Click OK. The installation should begin.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Solution:
- Insert the Madeline disc into the CD-ROM.
- Click the Start button, then click Find.
- Choose Files or Folders, and type *.hlp in the named field.
- In the Look In: box, select the drive letter that represents
the CD-ROM.
- Click Find Now.
- Double-click the help.hlp to open it.

Video
Does Not Display Properly |

Not enough disk space |
| When attempting to install Madeline,
Cluefinder or Reader Rabbit titles, the message "Not enough
disk space" appears. I have more than enough space. (This
typically occurs when attempting to install the program to a
hard drive that is larger than 2 GB.) |

Follow
the procedure below to install the program.
1. Place the Program CD into the CD-ROM drive. Allow time for the
CD-ROM drive to start up. If auto-install begins, skip to Step 5.
(If auto-run does not begin, continue with the next step.)
2. Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box will appear.
3. Type D:\Setup.exe in the Open: field and click OK. (If the CD-ROM
drive containing the CD is represented by a different letter,
replace D with that letter.)
4. Click Yes to install the program.
5. When the Welcome dialog box appears, click Next. The Software
License Agreement will appear.
6. Click Yes, if you agree to the terms of the agreement.
7. **HERE IS THE IMPORTANT STEP** : At the Choose Destination
Location, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN the CTRL key and click Next with the
your mouse. The Select Program Folder dialog box will appear. (This
by-passes the disk check)
9. Release the CTRL key and follow the on-screen prompts to continue
installing the program. |
