Exception 10H in Module RPWIN.EXE |
| |
When
printing, the following error message appears: "Illegal
operation-Exception 10h in module rpwin.exe." An outdated or corrupt
printer driver typically causes this issue. Deleting temp files and
updating the printer driver will help to identify the source of the
issue. Consult the remainder of this technical note for additional
information. The procedures below identify
the steps required to delete the temp files and to collect printer
driver information.
- At the desktop, click Start, select Shut Down and click
Restart the Computer.
- After the computer restarts, click Start, select Programs
and click Windows® Explorer.
- In the Explorer window that opens, double-click the C letter
drive, double-click the Windows® directory and double-click the
Temp directory to open it. (The words Exploring-Temp should
appear at the top of the window.)
- Click the first file listed in the Temp directory, click
Edit in the menu bar and click Select All. (All files in the
C:\Windows\Temp\ directory will be highlighted.)
- Press the DELETE key on the keyboard.
- Click Yes when prompted, "Are you sure that you want to send
X number of items to the Recycle Bin?" (The letter X represents
the actual number of items in the Temp directory.) If a message
appears indicating that a particular file cannot be deleted and
that access is denied, click OK to continue.
- Press the DELETE key on the keyboard and delete as many
files as possible until no more can be deleted. (The number of
files in the C:\Windows\Temp\ directory should be significantly
reduced.)
- Close all windows and return to the desktop.
- Click Start, select Settings and click Printers. The
Printers dialog window will open.
- In the Printers dialog window, click once on the printer
icon that represents the printer in use. (The icon should become
highlighted.)
- Click File in the menu bar, select Properties and click the
Details tab. (If a version number is presented regarding the
printer driver, record this number.)
NOTE: If no version number is presented, it is
recommended to update the printer driver to be sure that the
most current driver is installed.
- If a version number is found, compare the listed version
number to the newest available driver for that model printer.
(Driver update information can be found at the printer
manufacturer's Web site.)
- If the listed version number is lower than the newest
driver, contact the printer manufacturer for instructions on
updating the driver.
NOTE: It is recommended that the original printer driver
be uninstalled before installing the updated driver obtained
from the manufacturer.
- If the listed version is equal to the newest driver, install
a suitable emulation driver. For help identifying and installing
a suitable emulation, contact the printer manufacturer.
- Launch and use the program.
NOTE: For some printer models, it may be necessary to switch
back to the original printer when using a desired application in
order to gain full functionality of the printer. |

General Protection Fault in RPWIN.EXE |
| |
While
in the Task Wizard, the following error message appears: "Illegal
Operation-General Protection Fault in rpwin.exe." A conflict with a
program running in the background typically causes this type of
error. Uninstalling the program, closing background applications and
reinstalling the program will help to prevent a reoccurrence of this
error. Consult the remainder of this note for additional
information. Uninstalling Resume Pro™ 3.0
- Close programs and return to the desktop.
- Click Start, select Settings and choose Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel
window.
- Find Resume Pro 3.0 in the list of programs and click on it
once to select it.

- Click the No to All selection if asked whether to delete
Shared Files.
- After the program has been removed, close all open windows
and return to the desktop. Resume Pro™ 3.0 is now removed from
the system.
- Continue with the following procedure to reinstall Resume
Pro™ 3.0
Reinstall Resume Pro™ 3.0
Completing the steps below can help to prevent issues that sometimes
occur when installing a program.
NOTE: Before closing any background program, consult the
computer manufacturer to identify which programs need to remain
running. In particular, computers such as Compaq®, Packard Bell® or
Aptiva® that were pre-manufactured with all components installed,
may experience difficulties restarting if certain background
programs are closed.
- Close all programs and return to the desktop.
- Click Start, select Shut Down, choose the option for Restart
and click OK. The computer will shutdown and restart.
- Verify that no programs are running in the background. To do
this, press and hold down the CTRL and ALT keys at the same
time. While these keys are pressed, tap the DELETE key once.
- Release the CTRL and ALT keys. A Close Program window will
open. (In it appears a listing of all of the programs currently
running on the system. For any installation, two programs must
remain active: Explorer and Systray.)
- Start at the top of the Close Program listing and highlight
a program (other than Explorer or Systray) by clicking on it
once.
- Click the End Task button in the lower-left corner of the
Close Program window. (Do not click the Shut Down button, as it
will shut down the computer. This will start all programs that
have been closed, requiring that the procedure be repeated from
the beginning.) As a safety feature, only one program can be
closed at time. The Close Program window will close each time
the End Task button is selected.
NOTE: Most programs will close with a single End Task
action. Some programs, however, will require that the End Task
button be selected again. If a message appears indicating that
the program is not responding, click End Task again and proceed.
- Repeat Steps 4-6 to end task all programs except Explorer
and Systray.
- When only Explorer and Systray are showing in the Close
Program window, click the Cancel button.
- Insert the Resume Pro™ 3.0 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
NOTE: If the installation does not begin, complete these
steps:
- Click Start, choose Settings and select Control Panel.
- Click Install.
- Click Next and wait for the computer to locate the
installation program for Resume Pro™ 3.0.
- Click Finish and follow the prompts to complete the
installation of Resume Pro™ 3.0.
- At the conclusion of installing Resume Pro™ 3.0, restart
Windows®. This will restart all of the programs that were
running in the background that were closed because of the above
procedure.
- Launch and use the program.
