With School House Rock! Exploration Station, children will develop thinking skills as they explore a world of science. Our favorite girl-Interplanet Janet-has crashed on planet Earth and needs your help. Come prepared to explore a world of science games and build a rocket ship that will take Janet home. As each area is worked, Janet receives energy crystals or parts needed to complete the new ship. Janet also serves as the guide, and provides helpful hints throughout the projects. Features over 20 science topics, including: sound, light, electricity, the solar system, the human body, earth science, simple machines, weather, plants and animals. Issue Black Screen or Video Problems
Description After starting Schoolhouse Rock!™ Exploration Station™ the screen goes black or the colors in the program are not displayed properly.
Solution Solution 1

Complete the following procedure to change the color settings to 256 colors.
  1. Click Start, choose Settings and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Display icon.
  3. In the Display Properties window, select the Settings tab.
  4. Near the bottom-left portion of the window, under Colors (Windows® 98) or Color Palette (Windows® 95), click the drop-down menu and choose 256 Colors.
  5. Click Apply near the bottom-right portion of the window.
  6. Choose Yes if asked, "Do you want to restart the computer?"

NOTE: If 256 Colors is not an available setting, contact the computer manufacturer for additional assistance and information.

Solution 2

  1. Click Start and choose Run.
  2. Type: QTW.INI and click OK
  3. Under the [VIDEO] section there will be the words OPTIMIZE=DRIVER; change DRIVER to BMP.
  4. Choose File, Save.
  5. Close the QTW.INI file.

Solution 3

  1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
  2. Double-Click System.
  3. Click the tab labeled Device Manager.
  4. Click the + next to Display Adapters. Ensure that the video card is an ATI Rage 3D or one similar to this type of accelerated video card.
  5. Click the tab labeled Performance.
  6. Click Graphics button at the bottom.
  7. Lower the acceleration 2 notches to the left to Basic Hardware acceleration.
  8. Click OK, Close.
  9. Restart the computer and run the program.
Issue 256 Colors Required
Description Schoolhouse Rock!™ Exploration Station™ requires that the Colors (Windows® 98) or Color Palette (Windows® 95) setting be set to 256 Colors. (This is a minimum requirement of the program.) Following a step-by-step procedure will allow you to change the setting or to verify that 256 Colors is chosen as one of the Display Settings.
Solution Complete the following procedure to change the color settings to 256 colors.
  1. Click Start, choose Settings and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Display icon.
  3. In the Display Properties window, select the Settings tab.
  4. Near the bottom-left portion of the window, under Colors (Windows® 98) or Color Palette (Windows® 95), click the drop-down menu and choose 256 Colors.
  5. Click Apply near the bottom-right portion of the window.
  6. Choose Yes if asked, "Do you want to restart the computer?"

NOTE: If 256 Colors is not an available setting, contact the computer manufacturer for additional assistance and information.

Issue Auto-Installation Does Not Begin
Description After inserting the School House Rock!™ Exploration Station™ disc into the CD-ROM drive, the Auto-Run feature of the computer does not start the installation. Installing the program manually will resolve the issue.
Solution Follow the steps below to complete a manual installation of the program.
  1. Verify that the proper CD is inserted into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box will open.
  3. Type X:\SETUP.EXE in the Open: field, where the X represents the letter that identifies the CD-ROM drive.
  4. Click OK. The installation of the program should begin.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
