Issue Configuration File Missing or Damaged
Description
Solution When attempting to launch Print Shop® CD Label Creator, a message appears indicating that a configuration file may be missing or damaged. A corrupt initialization file or conflicts with a program running in the background usually cause this issue. Deleting the corrupt file, closing background programs or both may resolve the issue. Completing the procedures below should help resolve the issue.

Verify File System
  1. Close programs and return to the desktop.

  2. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties from the list.

  3. In the System Properties window, click the Performance tab.

  4. Locate the File System title and the Virtual Memory title and verify that 32-bit shows after each of these headings. If any reference to MS-DOS Compatibility Mode is made, contact the computer manufacturer for additional information.

  5. If 32-bit does show after each of these headings, continue with the following procedure to close background programs.
Close Background Programs

NOTE: Before closing any background program, consult the computer manufacturer to identify which programs need to remain running.

  5. Click the End Task button in the lower-left corner of the Close Program window. (Do not click the Shut Down button, as it will shut down the computer. This will start all programs that have been closed, requiring that the procedure be repeated from the beginning.) As a safety feature, only one program can be closed at time. The Close Program window will close each time the End Task button is selected. To continue, repeat Step 2 to reopen the Close Program window.

NOTE: Most programs will close with a single End Task action. Some programs, however, will require that the End Task button be selected again. If a message appears indicating that the program is not responding, click End Task again and proceed.

  6. When only Explorer and Systray are showing in the Close Program window, click the Cancel button. The window will close.

Issue Collection Initialization Files May Be Corrupt
Description
Solution When launching The Print Shop® CD Label Creator, the following error message appears: "Your collection initialization files may be corrupt. Content in the affected collection may not have fill functionality. Re-installation of the application may be necessary to repair the files." A conflict with installed ClickArt® titles causes this issue. This technical note describes how to proceed. ClickArt® titles using the ClickArt® Gallery automatically integrate themselves into Print Shop®. Some versions of ClickArt® (e.g., ClickArt® Celebrations & Holidays 2 and ClickArt® 250,000) cause the program to generate this error when they are installed. Click OK in the error message window until the message disappears. (The number of times that OK must be clicked is equal to the number of ClickArt® discs contained in each installed ClickArt® collection.) After the message no longer appears, the program will launch and can be used with no loss of functionality.

NOTE: The process of clicking OK when the error message appears must be repeated each time the program is launched.

To prevent the error from occurring, the ClickArt® titles must be uninstalled.

Issue Prints Only One Copy in Windows NT® or Windows® 2000/XP
Description
Solution On a system running Windows NT® or Windows® 2000/XP, after selecting to print two or more copies of a project in Print Shop® CD Label Creator, only one copy is printed. This issue generally occurs when printing to a network printer. Consult the remainder of this article for additional information and a procedure. Printing to a local printer—one connected directly to the computer where Print Shop® CD Label Creator is installed—rather than a network printer should allow more than one copy of the project to print. Currently, there is no solution to this issue when printing to a network printer.

Workaround for Some Project Types

For some project types including brochures, certificates, fax covers, letterheads, newsletters and posters, the following workaround is available.

NOTE: These instructions assume that the project is a single-page project.

  1. In Print Shop® CD Label Creator, open the project you want to print multiple copies of.

  2. Click Edit from the menu bar and click Select All. This will select all of the objects on the project.

  3. Click Edit and click Copy.

  4. Click on File and click New Project. The project picker will open.

  5. Click on Newsletter and click Next.

  6. Select the same orientation (Tall or Wide) used in the original project.

  7. Click once in the empty box next to Double-Sided and click Finish. The blank new project will appear in the design desk.

  8. Click Edit from the menu bar and click Paste. This will copy all of the objects that were selected in Step 2 from the original project to the new project.

  9. In the bottom-left corner of the Design Desk, click the next page button (resembles an triangle) that appears to the right of 1 of 1. The Add Pages window will appear.

  10. Enter 1 in the "Number of pages to add" field.

  11. Verify that "After Current Page" and "Add Blank Page" are both selected and click OK.

  12. Click on File from the menu bar and click Print. The Print dialog box will appear.

  13. Verify that the correct printer is selected.

NOTE: If the printer includes a Duplex printing option, click the Properties button in the Print window. Locate the DUPLEX setting (typically found under the Print tab) and set its value to OFF.

  14. Verify that the box for Double-Sided is checked.

  15. Select the number of copies to be printed.

  16. Click Print.

NOTE: Complete the double-sided print wizard if prompted to do so. The double-sided print wizard must be completed to print the project. After completing the double-sided print wizard, printing will automatically begin.

  17. After all copies have been printed and the prompt to re-insert the stack to print the other side appears, click Cancel.

Issue Freezes on the Splash Screen
Description
Solution After trying to open Print Shop® CD Label Creator, the computer freezes on the opening window. There are many possible causes of this issue. Troubleshooting various system-related possibilities will help to identify the source of the issue. This technical note describes how to proceed. Complete the procedures below in the order presented and as needed to help resolve the issue.

Determine if Errors Have Occurred

In some cases, an error may have occurred. With the splash screen visible, it is possible that the error message is hidden behind the splash screen. As a result, it can appear that the program is freezing. The following procedure will help determine if an error message is hidden behind the splash screen.

  1. Close any open windows or programs and return to the desktop.

  2. Attempt to launch The Print Shop® CD Label Creator. The splash screen should appear.

  3. Press and hold down the ALT key on the keyboard and tap the TAB key once.

  4. If an error message appears, record the text of that message and troubleshoot that specific error message. If a Details button appears in the error message window, click that button and record the information that displays. Continue to troubleshoot the error based on the Details information.

  5. If no error message appears, release the ALT key and slowly press the ESC key twice to launch The Print Shop®.

  6. If no error message appears or The Print Shop® does not launch, continue with the following procedure.
Close Background Programs

NOTE: Before closing any background program, consult the computer manufacturer to identify which programs need to remain running.
  1. Verify that no programs are running in the background. To do this, press and hold down the CTRL and ALT keys at the same time. While these keys are pressed, tap the DELETE key once.

  2. Release the CTRL and ALT keys. A Close Program window will open. (In it appears a listing of all of the programs currently running on the system. For any installation, two programs must remain active: Explorer and Systray.)

  3. Start at the top of the Close Program list and highlight a program by clicking on it once.

  4. Click the End Task button in the lower-left corner of the Close Program window. (Do not click the Shut Down button as it will shut down the computer. This will start all programs that have been closed, requiring that the procedure be repeated from the beginning.) As a safety feature, only one program can be closed at time. The Close Program window will close each time the End Task button is selected. To continue, repeat Step 1 to reopen the Close Program window.

NOTE: Most programs will close with a single End Task action. Some programs, however, will require that the End Task button be selected again. If a message appears indicating that the program is not responding, click End Task again and proceed.

  5. When only Explorer and Systray are showing in the Close Program window, click the Cancel button.

  6. Launch the program. If the issue persists, continue to the next procedure.
NOTE: The programs that were closed using the above procedure will restart when the computer is restarted.

Delete Temporary Files
  1. Close any windows or programs and return to the desktop.

  2. Click once on the Windows® Start button, choose Programs and choose Windows® Explorer.

  3. In the left pane of this window, click once on the C: drive. (Click Show Files if prompted.)
