Printing a Banner on Continuous Feed Paper
|

| After
creating a banner project, you want to print the banner using
continuous feed paper. The Print Shop® supports the ability to print
using continuous feed paper; however, the settings for the printer
in use must be adjusted to print to continuous feed (banner) paper.
View the remainder of this technical note for the details.
The ability to print to continuous feed (banner)
paper is set by the printer. If the printer supports continuous feed
printing, that option is found in the printer settings. Contact the
printer manufacturer to find out whether the printer supports
continuous feed printing, what settings need to be adjusted to print
to continuous feed paper, and which type of continuous feed paper is
recommended for the printer. |

Printing
without a Border |
| |
| After
creating a project, you want to print the project without a border
(i.e., to the edge of the paper). The Print Shop® supports printing
to the edge of the paper; however, the settings for the printer in
use must be adjusted to print full-bleed (to the edge). View the
remainder of this technical note for the details.
The ability to print full-bleed (to the edge of the
paper) is set by the printer. If the printer supports full-bleed
printing, that option is found in the printer settings. Contact the
printer manufacturer to find out whether the printer supports
full-bleed printing and what settings need to be adjusted to print
full-bleed. |

Adding
Borders to Projects |
| |
The
Print Shop® 20 features two different ways to add borders to your
projects. The tutorial that follows describes the two procedures.
The following steps describe how to add borders to
your projects in The Print Shop®.
Designing a New Border
- Launch Print Shop® 20 and open or create a project.
- Click the down arrow by Art & Photos and click Insert
Border. The BorderPlus window will open.
- To make a solid color border, complete these steps:
- Click the Spilling Paint Can icon on the tool bar.
- Select a color from the Color Palette window that opens.
- To add an image to the border, compete these steps:
- Click within the side or corner of the frame where the
image will go to select it. (To select multiple sides or
corners, press and hold down the SHIFT key while clicking in
each of the sides or corners.)
- Click the Picture Frame icon on the tool bar. The Art
Galley will open.
- Locate and select the desired image.
- Click Select in the bottom-left corner of the Art
Gallery. The selected image will appear in the side or
corner of the frame selected in Step a.
- Change the border width by dragging the inside line of the
border.
- Once the desired border is designed, click File in the menu
bar and select Save As. The Save As dialog box will appear.
- Type a name for the border in the File name: field and make
a note of the directory the file is saved to.
- Click Save.
- Click File and select Done Editing Border. The BorderPlus
window will close and the border will now appear on the project.
- Move and resize the border as needed.
Using Ready-Made Borders in the Art Gallery
- Launch The Print Shop® 20 and open or create a project.
- Click the down arrow by Art & Photos and click Insert Art
and Photos. The Art Gallery will open.
- Click the All Art and Photos tab at the top.
- Under Categories on the left side of the Art Gallery, click
the Borders option. The available borders will appear on the
right.
- Click the desired border and click OK. This will place that
image in the center of the Design Desk.
- Reposition and resize the image as needed.

Adding Mr. and Mrs. to Labels and Reports
|
| |
When
printing labels and reports from the Ultimate Mail Manager address
book (included with Print Shop® 20), the Mr. and Mrs. titles do not
print. Adding the additional field to the print layout will resolve
this. This technical note describes the procedure.
Follow the procedure below to add the Title field
to the print layout.
- While in the Ultimate Mail Manager®, click File and select
Print Preview. The Printing Wizard will open.
- Click the button for the type of printout desired (e.g.,
Address and Phone Reports, Call Log Reports, Delivery Labels and
Rolodex, etc.).
- Select a Printing Choice and click Next.
- Select the desired options and select Next.
- Click Customize.
- Click Layout tab. The current layout for that printout will
be shown in the upper window.
- Click once on the line that displays the current Name field.
Possible examples include: Name (with Spouse Name), Spouse–First
Name, Last Name, Spouse–Title, First Name, Last Name.
- Under the Fields option (lower window), scroll down to the
desired field and click on it once to select it (e.g., Mr. and
Mrs.- First Name, Last Name).
- Click Insert Field. This will replace the field selected in
Step 7 (above) with the field selected in Step 8.
- Make any additional changes and click Save.
- Click Finish to close the Printing Wizard and preview the
report.
- Review the information in the Print Preview to verify that
it is working as intended.

AOL® Users Unable to Connect to Internet
|
| |
When
attempting to connect to the Internet to access online content, The
Print Shop® 20 is unable to find an Internet connection. This issue
typically occurs when AOL® is the Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Connecting to the Internet before launching the program will help
resolve this issue. Follow the instructions presented in the
remainder of this note to continue. Complete
this procedure to connect to the Internet using The Print Shop® 20.
- Close The Print Shop® 20 and return to the desktop.
- Launch AOL®.
- Click the Minimize button ( _ ) on the title bar
(upper-right) to minimize the AOL® window.
- Using Microsoft® Internet Explorer (or a browser other than
AOL®), connect to a website such as http://www.broderbund.com/.
- Minimize this browser window as shown in Step 3.
- Launch The Print Shop® 20. The program should now connect
correctly.

Applying a Color Set to a Project |

Color
sets can be used to help create consistent, professional looking
documents. Color sets consist of different color combinations that
are applied to the panel, text, lines and other attributes of your
Print Shop® 20 projects. This procedure describes how to change or
modify an existing color set. Complete the
steps that follow to apply custom color sets to a project.
- Launch Print Shop® 20 and open a project.
- On the Design Desk, click the Color button (which resembles
a rectangular spectrum) located on the toolbar and choose Edit
Color Sets from the menu that appears. The Color Set dialog box
will display.
- Select a color set option from the Saved Sets drop-down list
(located on the left side of the Color Sets window). An example
of the color set will display when selected.
- Select one of the following options from the Color Set
Assignment drop-down list:
Do not assign to current project: Select this option
to ensure that no changes are made to the current project.
To current project from this point forward: Select
this option to update the assigned color set without affecting
existing objects.
To entire project: Select this option to update the
color set assignment and update existing objects.
- Click OK.
NOTE: Depending on the option chosen, the selected color set
will be applied to the current project. |

Auto-Installation Does Not Begin |
| |
After
inserting the Print Shop® 20 CD or DVD into the drive, the Auto-Run
feature of the computer does not start the installation. Installing
the program manually will resolve the issue. This technical note
describes the procedure. Follow the steps
below to complete a manual installation of the program.
- Verify that the proper disc is inserted into the proper
drive.
- Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box will open.
- Type D:\SETUP.EXE in the Open: field. (If the drive
is represented by a different letter, replace the letter D with
the letter that identifies the drive where the disc was
inserted.)
- Click OK. The installation of the program should begin.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Cannot
Print to Edge of Paper |

| After
creating and printing a project, you notice that the printed project
includes an unprinted margin. The Print Shop® creates a dotted line
on all projects that is meant to represent the printable area for
that project. Consult the remainder of this note for additional
information. The Print Shop® creates a
dotted line on all projects that represents the printable area for
that project. This area is derived from information provided by the
printer driver. The area represents the largest centered and
balanced area allowable by the printer. This cannot be adjusted.
Consult the printer manufacturer for additional information. |

CD or DVD
Is Not Recognized |
| |
After
inserting the disc (CD or DVD) into the CD or DVD drive when
prompted, the disc is not recognized. Any number of the following
conditions may cause this issue: wrong disc or drive is used, disc
needs cleaned, disc drive settings require changes, or the driver
for the CD or DVD drive is corrupted, outdated, or the wrong one.
The remainder of this technical note describes how to proceed.
Completing the following procedures will help to
resolve the CD/DVD-Read issue. Begin with item one and proceed
through the list.
- Verify that the correct CD or DVD is used when prompted to
insert the disc.
- For the DVD version of The Print Shop® 20, consider the
following:
 | DVD-ROM drives can read both DVD's and CD's.
|
 | CD-ROM drives, however, can read only CD's. |
Verify that the drive containing The Print Shop® Deluxe 20 DVD
is a DVD drive and not a CD-ROM drive. Most DVD drives will have
DVD printed on the front of the drive.
- Clean the disc. Place a small amount of nonabrasive, liquid
soap on the shiny side of the CD or DVD. Using your fingertips
and warm water, gently rub the soap on the disc in a circular
motion. Rinse the disc thoroughly and dry it using a clean, soft
T-shirt or lint-free towel. Do not use paper towels or tissue
paper.
- Change the Read Ahead setting in the following manner:
- Return to the desktop and right-click the My Computer
icon.
- Select Properties from the menu that appears and click
the Performance tab in the Systems Properties window.
- Click the File System button and click the CD-ROM tab.
- Locate Optimize Access Pattern For:.
- Click the arrow to the right of the information field
and select the No Read Ahead option.
- Restart Windows®.
- Verify that the computer is utilizing a 32-bit file system.
In the Systems Properties window (found in Step 3 above), click
the Performance tab. Verify that the File System reads 32-bit.
(If anything else shows, contact the computer manufacturer for
installation of the proper CD-ROM or hard drive drivers.)
- Turn off DMA in the following manner:
- In the Systems Properties window (found in Step 4a and
4b above), click the Device Manager tab.
- Choose View Devices By Type. In the list that appears,
locate disc drive or disc drive Controller.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to this listing.
- Using the left mouse button, double-click the name that
appears.
- In the Properties window, click the Settings tab. Find
the DMA checkbox and remove the checkmark (if one exists).
- Click OK.
- Verify that the most current version of the driver for the
CD or DVD drive is in use. Contact the computer manufacturer for
additional information.
- Try to use a different CD or DVD in the CD or DVD drive to
see if it can be read.
- If possible, insert the problem disc into the CD or DVD
drive of another computer to see if the issue remains.

Changing
Paper Size to Legal |
| |
When
creating a newsletter project in Print Shop® 20, you want to change
the paper size from Letter (8 1/2" x 11") to Legal (8 1/2" x 14").
The procedure is described in the remainder of this note.
Follow the procedure below to change the paper
size to Legal (8 1/2" x 14").
- With the project open on the Print Shop® design desk, click
File in the menu bar, select Printing and click Print Setup. The
Print Setup dialog box will appear.
- Verify that the correct printer is selected in the Printer
section.
- In the Paper section, click the down arrow button to the
right of the Size: field and select Legal 8 1/2" x 14".
(Selection may show only as Legal depending on the printer
used.)
- Click OK to return to the design desk. The open project will
change to the new paper size.
- Add or adjust the text and graphics as needed.
- Verify that the printer paper tray contains the correct
paper stock.
- Click File in the menu bar and select Print. The Print
dialog box will appear.
- Click Print to print the project.

Changing
the Calendar Date |
| |
While
creating a calendar project in Print Shop®, you want to change the
calendar date. A description of the procedure is presented in this
note. The following describes how to change
the date a calendar displays.
- Launch Print Shop® and open or create a calendar.
- Click the Edit on the menu, choose Calendar Settings and
select Date.
- In the window that appears, change the desired values and
click OK. The calendar will now display the desired date.

Changing the Default Broderbund.com Account
|
| |
When
accessing online content, a list of available user names displays.
If a user name is selected and the "Make Default User" option is
checked, the window showing the different user names will not
reappear. As a result, you are unable to select a different account.
View the remainder of this note for instructions that describe how
to reopen the user name window. Registering
the program again will reopen the window when accessing online
content. Complete these steps:
- Close all open windows and programs to return to the
desktop.
- Click Start, choose Programs, select the program title and
choose Register Your Software.
- Click the 13 Or Older button to continue with registration.
A window prompting for the User Name and Password will open.
Note: If the User Name and Password window does not open,
click the "If you are a registered Broderbund.com User, click
Here" link.
- Enter an email address and password used to previously
register the program and click Login.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete registration. When
the program attempts to access online content, the window
containing available accounts will display.

Changing Video
Settings |
| |
Print
Shop® 20 requires the video settings to be at least 800 x 600 and
High Color (16-bit). To confirm or change these video settings,
complete the procedure described in the remainder of this note.
Complete the steps that follow to change the video
settings.
- Click Start, select Settings and choose Control Panel. The
Control Panel will open.
- Double-click the Display icon. Display Properties will open.
- Click the Settings tab.
- On the left side of the Display Properties, locate Colors
(or Color Palette). The Colors setting must be at least High
Color (16-bit).
NOTE: If High Color (16-bit) is not an option, contact
the computer or video card manufacturer for an updated video
driver.
- After changing the Colors to High Color (16-bit), confirm
that the Screen (or Desktop) area is set to at least 800 x 600.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK to close the Display Properties. If prompted, click
Yes to restart the computer.

Colors Print
Incorrectly |
| |
When
printing from Print Shop® 20, colors print incorrectly. Deleting
temporary files and updating the printer driver will help resolve
this issue. This note describes how to proceed.
Complete the following procedures as needed to
help resolve the issue.
Delete Temporary Files
- Close any open programs and return to the desktop.
- Click Start and click Shut Down (or Turn off Computer).
- Select the option to Restart and click OK or Yes. The
computer will shut down and restart.
- When Windows® is finished loading after the restart,
double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop. The My
Computer window will open.
For Windows® XP, click Start and click My Computer. The My
Computer window will open.
- Double-click the icon that represents the C: drive. The
contents of the C: drive should be displayed. (Click Show Files
if prompted.)
- Double-click the Windows folder (Windows® 98/Me) or WinNT
folder (Windows® 2000/XP) to view its contents. (Click Show
Files if prompted.)
- Double-click the Temp folder to view its contents.
- Click Edit and choose Select All. If a window appears
indicating that there are hidden files, click OK.
- Click File and choose Delete. If prompted to send the files
to the Recycle Bin, click Yes.
- Launch the program. If the issue persists, continue with the
information that follows.
Update the Printer Driver
Downloading and installing an updated version of the printer driver
(or a suitable emulation) will resolve this issue. Contact the
system administrator or printer manufacturer for information that
describes this procedure.

Copy
and Paste Between Projects |
| |
While
working in Print Shop®, objects can be copied from one project and
pasted into another project. The tutorial that follows describes the
procedure. Complete the steps below to copy
an object from one project and paste it into another.
- Open the original project and select the item to be copied
by clicking on it once.
- Click Edit in the menu bar and select Copy.
- Open the new project.
- Click Edit in the menu bar and select Paste. The object will
now be pasted to the new project.
- Arrange and resize the object as needed.

Custom Paper Stock Does Not Display |
| |
After
adding a paper stock to Print Shop® 20 using the Custom Paper
Wizard, the new stock does not display in the list of available
paper stock for the project. The remainder of this note describes
how to proceed. Verify that the paper stock
was added to the correct category of project. Complete these steps:
- Launch the program.
- Click the Tools menu, choose Custom Paper Wizard and choose
Edit Custom Paper.
- Select the desired category of project and click Next.
- Verify that the recently added paper stock is visible in the
list that appears.
NOTE: If the paper stock appears in the list, but does not
appear when attempting to create a project, close Print Shop® 20 and
launch the program again. The paper stock should be visible. |

Deleting Saved
Projects |
| |
Print
Shop® 20 allows new projects to be designed and the included
templates to be modified. These projects can be saved to the hard
drive to access them when desired. If hard drive space is getting
low or you simply want to delete some or all of the saved projects,
the procedure in the remainder of this note describes the process.
Complete the steps that follow to delete projects
that are no longer wanted or needed.
NOTE: The procedure that follows describes how to permanently
delete selected projects. Complete this procedure to clear the hard
drive of projects that are no longer wanted. Projects deleted by
completing the following steps cannot be recovered.
- Launch Print Shop® 20.
- When the Project Picker appears, click My Projects. The
Project Gallery will open to the My Projects tab.
NOTE: If the project Picker does not open when launching
Print Shop®, click File and click New. When the Project Picker
opens, click My Projects. The Project Gallery will open to the
My Projects tab.
- Locate the desired project to delete and click it once to
select it.
- Click Edit from the menu bar and click Delete Project. The
Confirm Delete dialog box will appear with the following
message: "Are you sure you want to remove [Project Name]?"
- Click once in the empty box next to "Delete project file
from disk." A check will appear in the box.
- To permanently delete the selected project from the Project
Galley and the hard drive, click Delete.
Click Cancel to cancel the delete procedure. The selected
project will not be permanently deleted from the Project Galley
and the hard drive.
- Repeat Steps 3-6 to permanently delete other saved projects
from the Project Galley–My Projects tab.
- When all desired projects have been deleted, close the
Project Gallery.
