Auto-Installation
Does Not Begin |
| After inserting the
Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™ CD into the CD-ROM drive, the Auto-Run
feature of the computer does not start the installation. Installing
the program manually will resolve the issue. |
Follow the steps below
to complete a manual installation of the program.
- Verify that the proper CD is inserted into the
CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start and select Run. The Run dialog box
will open.
- Type D:\SETUP.EXE in the Open field. (If
the drive containing the Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™ CD is
represented by a different letter, replace D with that letter when
typing the information.)
- Click OK. The installation of the program
should begin.
- Follow the prompts to complete the
installation.

CD Is Not
Recognized |
| After inserting the CD
into the CD-ROM drive when prompted, the CD is not recognized. Any
number of the following conditions may cause this issue: wrong CD is
being used, CD needs cleaned, CD-ROM drive settings require changes,
or the CD-ROM driver is corrupted, outdated, or the wrong one. |
By completing the
procedures that follow, the CD-Read issue may be resolved. Begin
with item one and proceed through the list.
- Verify that the correct CD is being used when
prompted to insert the disc.
- Clean the CD. Place a small amount of
nonabrasive, liquid soap on the shiny side of the CD. Using your
fingertips and warm water, gently rub the soap on the CD in a
circular motion. Rinse the CD thoroughly and dry it using a clean,
soft T-shirt or lint-free towel. Do not use paper towels or tissue
paper.
- Change the Read Ahead setting in the following
manner:
- Return to the desktop and right click on the
My Computer icon.
- Select Properties from the menu that appears
and click on the Performance tab in the Systems Properties
window.
- Click the File System button and click the
CD-ROM tab.
- Locate Optimize Access Pattern For:.
- Click the arrow to the right of the
information field and select the No Read Ahead option.
- Restart Windows®.
- Verify that the computer is utilizing a 32-bit
file system. In the Systems Properties window (found in Step 3
above), click the Performance tab. Verify that the File System
reads 32-bit. (If it reads anything else, contact the computer
manufacturer for installation of the proper CD-ROM or hard drive
drivers.)
- Verify that the most current version of the
driver for the CD-ROM drive is being used. Contact the computer
manufacturer for additional information.
- Try to use a different CD in the CD-ROM drive
to see if it can be read.
- If possible, insert the CD that is not being
recognized into the CD-ROM drive of another computer to see if the
issue remains.

Exiting the
Game |
| After playing
Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™, you want to exit the game. The brief
tutorial that follows describes how to exit Zoombinis™ Mountain
Rescue™. |
Follow the procedure
below to exit the game.
- Click the Map (resembles a piece of paper) near
the bottom-left of the screen. The Map will open.
- Click Quit near the bottom-right of the screen.
A pink dialog box will appear asking: "DO YOU REALLY WANT TO
QUIT?"
- Click the check mark. The game will close.

Changing
Players |
| While playing
Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™, you want to logout and sign in a
different player. The tutorial that follows describes the process. |
Follow the procedure
below to sign-in a different player.
- Click the Map (resembles a piece of paper) near
the bottom-left of the screen. The Map will open.
- Click Sign-In (bottom left). The Sign-in screen
will appear.
- Select a different player from the list, or
click New Player at the bottom and type in the name of the new
player.
- Click Start Game.

Black Screen at
Program Launch |
| When starting
Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™, the screen flashes and turns black. An
outdated or corrupted video driver can cause this issue. Updating or
reinstalling the video driver should resolve this issue. View the
remainder of this technical note for more information. |
The following
procedure describes how to collect video driver information, which
is needed to update the video driver and to resolve this issue.
Updating the Video Driver
NOTE: The driver (make and model information) is found in the
Device Manager in the System Properties window.
- Return to the desktop and right-click once on
the My Computer icon.
- Using the left mouse button, click Properties
in the menu that appears.
- Click the Device Manager tab in the Systems
Properties window.
- Locate Display Adapters and click on the Plus
(+) sign before it.
- Double-click the driver name that appears. A
driver Properties window will open.
- Click the Driver tab in the window that opens.
(The date of the driver currently installed should be displayed.)
- Record the information.
NOTE: Do not click the Update Driver button in the driver
Properties window.
- Contact the video card or computer manufacturer
for additional information. (See the following note.)
NOTE: Video driver
updates can be obtained from the appropriate manufacturer’s web
site, or by contacting the computer manufacturer for update and
download information. |

Incompatible Version
of the RPC Stub |
| When attempting to
install the program, the message "Error 0x90070725 Incompatible
version of the RPC stub" appears. An incorrect version of the
OLEAUT32.DLL file in the System folder causes this issue.
Downloading and installing the correct version of the OLEAUT32.DLL
file should resolve the issue. Consult this technical note for
additional instructions. |

Unable
to Set Video Mode |
| After installing
Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™ and clicking Play, the following message
appears: "Unable to set video mode." An incompatibility regarding
the video card driver, the monitor and the required display settings
can cause this issue. Disabling DirectDraw or updating the video
card driver will help to identify the source of the issue. This
technical note describes how to continue. |
Complete the steps
that follow to disable DirectDraw.
- Close all programs and windows to return to the
desktop.
- Click Start and choose Run.
- Type dxdiag in the Open: field and click
OK. The DirectX Diagnostic Tools window will open.
- Click the Display tab.
- Under the DirectX Features heading, click the
Disable button that appears to the right of DirectDraw
Acceleration. A DirectX Diagnostic Tool message will appear.
- Click OK.
- Click Exit to close the DirectX Diagnostic
Tools window.
- Launch Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™.
NOTE: After playing
Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™, repeat the above procedure and click
Enable for Step 5 to restore the system to its original state.

Unsupported Processor |
| When attempting to
install DirectX® (included on the Zoombinis™ Mountain Rescue™ CD)
the message "Unsupported processor" appears. This issue occurs when
attempting to install DirectX® on a system running a Cyrix®
